There’s been A TON of people on the west side of the state — even in Calhoun county which is a red county — getting signatures. I stopped at the brewery I used to work for in Calhoun county and a dude was there with petitions for Kalamazoo and Calhoun county and he got 50+ signatures from that. Granted, for Calhoun county, this brewery is particularly progressive but it was great to see.

 

They got a shit ton of signatures in what seems like a really short span of time. I know they have been working on this before the decision came down and before the leaked opinion but even then its seems like this took them literally no time to hit the mark they needed.

 

While, no, it doesn’t make any fucking sense, I am unfortunately unsurprised by this stance. Growing up in an evangelical church I was taught that medication was a tool of Satan to distance our minds from God and numb us to the “ways of the world”. Just this week I told my therapist, much to her surprise, that I was also raised to believe that therapy is, yet again, a tool of Satan rooted in paganism and Jungian theory meant to lead you astray (same as yoga). If you were to “seek help” it was preferable for you to see a “counselor” rather than a “therapist” (despite the fact that they’re essentially interchangeable terms) and that said counselor be a Christian counselor with a theological degree. When my parents got divorced, my mom started seeing a therapist and got on antidepressants because the church members were shunning our family for “sinning” and she was receiving hate mail and horrid phone calls from members telling her she was living in sin (she was the one who asked for the divorce) and that her therapist was leading her down the “wrong path” and that by taking medication she had opened herself up to “demonic forces.” All of that led me to fearing going to therapy myself for years. Now I’ve been doing it for three years and I’m fairly heavily medicated and my dad still refers to my therapist as a “counselor” and I can see him grimace when I correct him.

So yeah. Fucking stupid and right on brand.

we just missed a call back from our pediatrician on scheduling ours for our 3 year old.

 

You can walk into a vaccine center in NJ and just get it. I'd do it this Friday but if he gets sick into Monday me and my wife are unable to take off.
