Got on a flight from Atlanta to NY right after airlines announced this, word for word from the pilot:

“I’ve wanted to say this for two year. As of 10 minutes, your mask just became optional!”

wild but also people have been maskless/chin masking for a while now

 

Yeah I mean the last flight I was on in February, mask wearing was really spotty once we were in the air. Not to mention everyone takes them down to eat / drink.

 

The planes I was on must have done a good job, seemed like it was enforced well

 

Also people not complying with a law has never just meant the law should be scrapped, if the law is good, such as a public health law, we should be finding ways to make compliance better. We don’t say “well hey no big deal if we roll back emissions regulations because the facility I live by violates them all the time.”

250 sounds right already been to golden coral 3 times this week and its still monday

 

No way that doesn’t include fast food drive through, take out, etc but even if it did, 250 is still insane!

I cannot believe they announced that mid flight. Truly fucked

 

people should honestly sue any airline that removes the mask mandate without warning

you buy a ticket, you expect the airline to be following common safety sense. they choose to put your life at risk, you should be able to take them to court.

 

like I'm literally on vacation right now, flying back in a week. what the fuck am I supposed to do?

 

Given the fact that masks in America only refers to the cloth masks that are all but a farce when it comes to Omicron, just wear a kn95 mask and make sure it’s secured properly.

I mean don't those still only somewhat help? and its far safer if everyone is masked?

 

but like, my understanding when it comes to covid is that the mask is mostly there to help protect others from yourself not from stopping yourself from getting infected

You just need to go "At Common Sense Airlines, we still care about public safety, so we're still requiring masks"

Airlines are still responsible for the health of their travelers

A fitted N95 will block 95% of particles you breath in, so it would make the odds of you getting infected very small.

In the absence of that, a medical mask with a good nose pinch and a cloth mask on top of that was shown to provide very good protection as well from what I remember reading on the studies, somewhere north of 80% I think. That’s because the medical mask itself is able to block a lot of particles and the cloth mask on top both adds another layer of protection and also eliminates some of the gaps around the sides.

so yes while you will be far more protected if people around you are also wearing masks, masking yourself in a room full of people who are unmasked is still going to provide you with strong protection

 

not even the people with 2 year old kids on a flight where they removed the mandate mid flight?

 

Good news is KN95s are cheap now on Amazon. A box of 50 I bought last year for $70something is now $13/box lol

 

I’ll be wearing a KN95 and surgical mask on the plane I’ve gone this long without getting it I’m not about to get it because of this
