  6. I feel like all of the things I've posted address these questions pretty directly. Like, specifically lay out answers to these questions

  7. Nuclear use could be tactical, not directed at Washington or the EU. A financial crisis is not exactly a stabilizing force in this context. There is a continued risk of escalation by NATO. This last article lays out a step by step scenario where using nukes on Kiev becomes the best option from Putin's perspective. I am not being silly

I don't want to come off as condescending, but I do think there is a strong degree of wishful thinking coming into play with people downplaying the risk of this escalating to the point where nuclear weapons become involved. Probably in large part because the alternative is just too horrible to even actively think about, but I don't think it really helps to ignore the problem or pretend it is not the case. A lot of the reasoning I am reading that downplays the likelihood of Putin using nukes is flawed right from the start because the thinking doesn't really apply to what he has already done in attacking a sovereign nation completely unprovoked. Also, it seems like a lot of people aren't listening to what he is actually saying.

It really is a shit sandwich. Looking at what is currently happening across Ukraine, even pulling for the people of Ukraine to kick Russia's ass and embarrass the hell out of Putin, I don't know how anyone can look at that, with Putin's nuclear capabilities, and taking into account literally everything we know about him, and feel great about a Putin who has been embarrassed and humiliated on the world stage and whose country is suffering crushing economic sanctions but who still has his finger on the button of the majority of the nuclear weapons on this planet.

    Not here. Isn't happening. Supporter

Having constantly antagonistic countries with varying unstable leaders with stockpiles of nuclear weapons to me just feels like a chekhov’s gun situation. Maybe it doesn’t happen in this conflict but it also seems to be true that there are variables in this conflict that could lead to nuclear war. Either way it would be hard to believe that eventually it doesn’t happen. It will always seem crazy in any situation to be the first to start that kind of destruction but at some point some lunatic pushes the button first.

Backing Putin into a corner where he is losing face on a harder-than-anticipated military campaign while dealing with the total collapse of the Russian economy at home sounds like a great way to prevent him from launching nukes, idk what y'all are talking about

Biden should simply issue a sanction that prevents all world leaders whose last names start with P from being able to press nuclear launch buttons, that should work

  20. One of the tweets that sticks with me the most was one analysis saying this is a reminder that even if it doesn't happen now, the next 50-60 years could end up being as risky for nuclear escalation as the 50-60 after ww2. We had our little end of history nuclear détente, now back to reality
