All things considered, no matter the relative sizes, it's crazy we're talking about one country taking over another in a matter of days.

 

I live near ORNL and in the past they’ve recommended looking up what to do if they’re a target. Now that it’s a smidge more realistic, I don’t like it. But I’ve also looked up how much time I would have to move my chickens inside before fallout would reach us.

 

Yeah, I was thinking something similar as well: how pathetic did everyone expect Ukraine to be if it's considered a minor miracle that the Russian army hasn't taken over the capital in 4 days. Like, they could still very well take over in a week or two and this will have still been a ridiculously short war (obviously the occupation/getting the rest of the country to comply with a puppet government would take longer but we're still talking timescales shorter than what it took for Baghdad to fall)

 

Just your warning that we are definitely like 48 hours away from someone doing the endgame scene with all the characters labeled as countries, and Cap’s uniform being photoshopped with the Ukrainian colors and Zelenskyy’s face lol

 

Why wait? You can go viral 48 hours ahead of everyone else.

I live sandwiched between two military bases and a missile range, and boy have they been active today. Moving a lot of stuff around. Temporarily closing down parts of the interstate for transport. Lot of chinooks in the sky today as well. Unnerving! They are never this active.

 

I have seen some talk of the kind I would normally write off as wishful thinking or intelligence storytelling but hopefully (or not??) maybe is true, that Putin is isolated and cut off and closing his circle and paranoid and etc etc. think postwar Stalin. that would explain the bad decision making i suppose, but also hopefully? maybe? make a anti-nuclear coup more likely or possible.

it's weird, in what I've read about nuclear war gaming during the cold war, the idea is that a nuclear related coup would be the military stepping in to launch the nukes when they see a cowardly civilian leader would rather let the regime fall via invasion or by being victim of a first strike than do their own first strike. kind of the opposite here.

And yeah the craziest thing here is how relatively easy it would've been to just secure the separatist held areas. He could've probably made it a Great Victory or whatever but nope

 

Well, it's not like I wanted to anything indoors anyway. Totally wasn't thinking about, I don't know, eating in a restaurant or seeing a show for the first time in two years now that things were getting better. Although, considering most of NYC is fully vaxed and most people I know love the vaccine mandate because it makes them feel more comfortable, I could almost see this backfiring and hurting business (besides, you know, the obvious issues of more people and workers getting sick because of this)

On the other hand, apparently a lot of places aren't really checking vax status anyway. I mean, Sarah Palin (who really shouldn't been blocked from entering NYC anyway, vaccine or no, if we're being honest here) was able to get into a restaurant

 

yeah that's what gets me, is that they're trying to cater to 25% of the population because they're annoying
thankfully I think most shows I go to have smart people there but it's still scary
