From everything I read she's the best of the three who he was considering and I was pretty convinced that he was going to go with Childs because both Clyburn and Lindsey Graham were pushing for her (even though, I can't remember the exact details, but I believe she's sided with employers on job racism cases before and had some anti-union stances as well). So, yeah, this is very good. But I'm also surprised. How pissed off at the Republicans does Biden have to be to have the opportunity for what likely be at least some bipartisan support and then turn it down?

  4. It’s relative, but yeah this is both good and anticlimactic. She’s been the expected nominee since before Biden was elected.

Could be a lot worse. I don’t actually know a lot about her decisions as a judge but her limited attorney experience is as an assistant public defender which is good because typically the prosecutors office has been the pipeline. She seemed to do some good albeit obviously needed things while in the sentencing commission. Not exactly the kind of leftist I think we need to fight the ideological right on the court but again could be a lot worse.

  6. I was really worried we were gonna get Clyburn's pick so yeah I'm happy with that

  7. Big positive for KBJ is that along with a history as a public defender, she’s served on sentencing boards and led efforts to cut sentencing especially for drugs.

For Biden of all people to turn his back on the pro-Charles lobby is hugely surprising to me the more I think about it haha

Yeah seems clear early on that they were hoping to take it with minimal effort/troops, as that thread posted earlier said---the more troops and firepower they use, the uglier it gets, and the more Ukraine will resist occupation.

Russia is getting kicked out of everything at this point, with no hope of any near-term return. Now it seems SWIFT might be coming around to finally locking them out as well, which would be a big deal. At that point, financially, outside of China Russia would be locked out from the rest of the world in most capacities

Russia just threatened military and political consequences against Finland and Sweden if they join NATO.
