I know I'm late with this, but we took the kids to the zoo in the fall when numbers were a lot worse than they are now, and none of us were vaccinated. Obviously everyone had masks on, and we only did the outdoor stuff, and we attempted to keep away from other people as much as possible. We knew it was risky but it honestly seemed like a lot less risk than doing something indoors, and the kids needed it.

I would feel pretty good about going to the zoo now though, but I would definitely still wear a mask and have the kids wear masks as well.

I've been regularly wearing my mask in many settings where the rules don't specifically say that I have to, and partly because my kids still have to wear theirs and it doesn't seem right to make them wear masks on their faces if I'm standing right there without one. I do it moreso because I still don't feel like we are at the point where masks should go, but the thing with my kids definitely plays into my thinking a little bit too.

I honestly am not going to feel weird at all about wearing a mask during cold and flu season going forward, or possibly at other times in certain scenarios. I think that ship has sailed for me.

Definitely weird to see the same conservatives who defended motorists running over BLM protestors praising the tank guy

I’ll definitely be wearing in the winter for not just preventing illnesses but keeping my face warm

Admittedly this is very stupid, but I am actually enjoying wearing a mask right now because I'm having alopecia areata on my beard / face, or alopecia barbae I guess. I've had it before many years ago but I haven't had an issue with it in a long time. And I've had a full beard for the last ten years. I hate shaving my face. But this time I had a huge bald patch right in the front of my face on the left side of my chin. It looked like I took a razor and shaved a crazy random chunk out of the front of my beard. So I shaved it off. I definitely feel more comfortable wearing a mask right now.

Yeah it’s definitely strange. I have some theories based on what we know so far...

    1. They actually ARE getting it in small amounts, but, if I remember correctly, I remember reading something about how toddlers and small children don’t have as many ACE2 enzymes as adults or something like that, which is the main way the virus replicates and spreads, so it just doesn’t take hold in kids as well.

    2. they are getting it but are just asymptomatic and thus probably don’t have the viral load to get too sick or spread it

    3. They just don’t exhale enough aerosols because their little lungs aren’t strong enough?

    4. *puts on tin foil hat* maybe it really was a lab experiment and it was designed in a way that, if it did ever get out, it wouldn’t effect small children and thus would be more “tolerable” in its effects on the world? Lol I don’t know. The ACE2 thing DOES add fuel to a lot of the lab made theories though. It’s kind of a “perfect” virus in a lot of ways.

All I know is we started sending him out of necessity in early Feb, and he’s had to stay home sick/been sent home sick 3-4 times already and each time he tested negative. But they also don’t do the deep up the nose swab so maybe they got false negatives? Idk. I’m still halfway convinced I had it Jan/feb 2020 and that he caught it from me because we ended up having to take him to the hospital the first week of Feb 2020 because he was so congested they literally suctioned his nose with this big ass machine lol. But they said it was some other virus because he got a rash afterwards iirc that they said was a common viral infection for babies his age.

I think at this point any outdoor activities like going to the zoo is very low risk, even without people wearing masks. I guess it will depend on the area but the covid cases are have been continuously declining and look to be in pretty damn good shape, I feel like chances of transmission outdoors is next to none.

Yea my kid has been in daycare four months and caught 5 different colds. All of them tested negative for covid. If covid were to spread in kids (she’s in the toddler room) it would definitely be in that daycare, everything else is in there apparently.

Cold and flu does spread through surfaces and such much more than covid, so perhaps that has something to do with it as well

this was another idea I entertained as well, but then I realized that maybe we don’t really know as much about surface spread as we thought we did. It seems like this pandemic finally has people accepting aerosolized spread, and I wonder how much spread of other viruses in the past we’ve attributed to fomite transmission that was actually due to aerosols

  19. TikTok just gave itself permission to collect biometric data on US users, including ‘faceprints and voiceprints’ – TechCrunch
A change to TikTok’s U.S. privacy policy on Wednesday introduced a new section that says the social video app “may collect biometric identifiers and biometric information” from its users’ content. This includes things like “faceprints and voiceprints,” the policy explained. Reached for comment, TikTok could not confirm what product developments necessitated the addition of biometric data to its list of disclosures about the information it automatically collects from users, but said it would ask for consent in the case such data collection practices began.

Remember when we didn’t know covid isn’t transmissible through surfaces, packaging, and anything else we touch and we wiped down everything we touched? Those were insane times and feel like an eternity ago.
