One would think Collins and Murkowski would be chastened by the events in Alabama.

Isn’t Collins running for Governor though? Not seeking re-election next year?

If I’m Doug Jones, and I know my days are numbered, I spend the next four years like a Senator planning on retiring from politics with nothing left to lose. Push the most rip-roaringly leftist policies imagineable and basically act like an attack dog off the leash toward the GOP. There’s literally nothing they can do to threaten him politically, no leverage whatsoever like they have over someone like Manchin.

Nah, she isn’t running for governor. She plans on staying in the senate, but I can’t see her voting for this and surviving the election. She has no popular base for the tax cuts.

Oh well yeah, that changes things. I was under the assumption she was leaving the Senate to run for Governor. She’s definitely a prime target now after this.

Suggesting his endorsement is a hindrance will be an effective way to rile him up, for sure

    Good piece

“I don’t want to say it’s a racist state, but it’s a racist state,” Thornton-Latham told me. “It’s not for African Americans or Blacks to prosper.” Black residents make up 27 percent of Alabama’s population. Black children are twice as likely to live in poverty, and Black people are twice as likely to be imprisoned.

Black voters, they said, often feel like pawns.

Marie King, an activist in Birmingham who specializes in racial reconciliation and healing, put it this way: “The Democratic Party—they always reach out to the Black community when they need the Black vote.” But the party doesn’t maintain contact after elections, failing to show people if and how their vote “moved the needle” on progress, she said.“

How Democrat Doug Jones won Alabama
