Trigger warning. This article is about the abuse that is pervasive among the Christian evangelical community:

"Yet the potential for sexual abuse is actually exacerbated by the core identity of fundamentalist groups like ABWE. Like Catholics, fundamentalists preach strict obedience to religious authority. Sex is not only prohibited outside of marriage, but rarely discussed. These overlapping dynamics of silence and submission make conservative Christians a ripe target for sexual predators. As one convicted child abuser tells clinical psychologist Anna Salter in her book Predators: Pedophiles, Rapists, and Other Sex Offenders, “Church people are easy to fool.”

I used to know someone who lived this life... idk if we can talk about this here though.

Edit:Using Christianity as a way to fool women and abusing them in different ways.

Not to mention she defended the death penalty. Harris is a garbage politician and another example of the shallow bench liberals have.

Well as long as you encourage people not to vote or participate, you'll be eating the shit and liking it

Person: Hey, I think this politician is shitty for these reasons.

Person B: I'd vote for this person over Trump.

Person: Wait, what? But, what about those criticisms.

Person B: Stop discouraging people from voting.

Person: But, her platform is literally killing and eating black children.

Person B: Still better than Trump, tho.

I feel like he's positioning himself that if it passes and people are furious, he can turn and be like "see, I told them not to do it. I said it was too mean!"

Can confirm that there have been and still are systemic inadequacies at two of the three churches I attended, not to mention all over Vision Forum, purity + discipline culture, and homeschooling fundamentalists

I'd go on but it'd be the same ole same ole...reminding you that the GOP of today is quite possibly the most dangerous political party in this country's history, at least since the 1800s Dems, and it's time to stop treating Dems vs Repubs as only slightly less shitty, etc.

Also, to be frank, yeah when it comes to choosing the POTUS, their knowledge of the best methods for policing places like Backpage are pretty low on the 'what they need to know' list. It would not be an issue that a President would be getting personally involved in, by and large. I'll just have to suck it up and vote for someone who only does 80-90% of things I like, and try to push for better on the remaining 10% after the election. I guess I could constantly talk about how bad she is on the remaining 10% for months on end before the election and then tell myself it didn't discourage anyone from voting for her when Trump wins term 2.

To be clear, in this case, "the remaining 10%" = enslavement through forced incarcerated labor of, primarily, people of color.

Well, alarming reframing aside, you're endorsing a strategy that will get re-elected a racist who's attorney general is literally trying to bring back the war on drugs.

Gonna have to exuse me if I don't believe your concern and/or think it is at best misplaced. We can spend 4 years starting in 2020 trying to convince the president that there are better ways to deal with the tens of thousands of sex workers in prison, or we can spend 4 years starting in 2024 fighting the same battle we have the last 20 about locking up millions of POC for smoking a little weed, AND trying to convince the president that there are better ways to deal with tens of thousands of sex workers.

I've on-and-off been one of those "I don't need or care about politics" people for a while, at least on a national level. For me it's mostly cynicism. US politics always seems like a bunch of dudes circle-jerking about how right they are in order to feed their egos, all across the political spectrum. From the outside, it looks like a gigantic echo chamber where people talk about things that they already know with people who already agree with them in order to get re-elected, instead of working towards actually solving problems that affect the general population.

It's not difficult to see that the US government operates on a scale that slides between messy/inefficient and outright corrupt, and that pretty much everyone involved in it seems to be okay with that status quo. Fix the shitty system - redraw district lines without gerrymandering, make voting easy for everyone, implement term limits and lower salaries in congress, present political info to voters in an easily accessible & digestible format, teach more government in schools, etc - then people like me will have more faith in it.

I'm not exactly defending this viewpoint. Obviously if everyone who thought the gov't needed fixing decided to get involved and change it, change would happen faster. But continually giving people something that's broken and then scratching your head when they don't want to use it is maybe not the best approach, that's all I'm saying.

Lol how is that alarmist refraining? That's literally the case her office pushed, and she has continued to tacitly endorse and extend it in actions by repeatedly delaying reforming CA's prison system even given court deadlines to do so.

Dont believe my concern? Uh... OK?

The point is that we should be highlighting and financially supporting candidates who actually have progressive visions. The dichotomy of "kamala vs trump" is a false one and the idea that the DNC doesn't have the power and money to platform a more progressive candidate is ridiculous. If it's literally kamala vs trump, yeah, I'd vote kamala. But it also will never actually be that, and there will very likely be a candidate who better represents my views and ideals.

David, you're excusing issues because of x vs y. Its not about x vs y yet, relax.
