  1. Other advice: fuck the debates they don't matter. Haha. Like get out there talking everyday and pray the media doesn't cover Trumps rallies with obsession and not yours.

  2. I think Bernie's success and parts of the platform is a great argument against this. Those did fantastic and Hillary pointing out the cost, etc, backfired.

Cities could cease offering businesses hundreds of millions of dollars for stadiums and development. There are choices to be made.

Yes, but people are speaking a language that is dominant. Precisely because of the limited options offered to them, they resort to some of the worst options. Clinton offered law and order and ending welfare as we know it. Many opposed it, many supported it. Focusing on the latter is the argumentative trickery to which I was referring that allows you to justify bad policies like charter schools.

Guys, I gotta tell you. I had a real rough white people day. On the upside, I got a new nickname, which I actually like: "Communick"

See I think his success was hindered with some Dem voters in the primaries specifically because his idea wasn't fleshed out very well and was very expensive without much of an explanation on how to pay for it...at least with some of the more moderate ones that still want a single payer but don't want it at any cost...or the ones that don't understand that campaign promises and white papers are just initial blue prints and the policy won't actually end up looking like that and etc.

  10. A lot of people I wouldn't expect to support charter schools really like them in Portland. It's weird.

Again, it's not justifying it, it's understanding why it happens. And, unlike the crime bill which doesn't seem to have had any positive effect (crime rates being lower doesn't seem to be directly related to it), some charter schools in some areas actually do really good work for the populations they serve.

Bernie never managed to meld the economic talk with the racial discourse, which allowed some people to act as though they were separate. That was one of his glaring flaws, among others.

  13. I thought it was hindered because he got cheated? Heh.

But I don't think it actually meant that much to those voters and it sure wouldn't have mattered in the general given the other side, but I don't think he coulda make the same arguments for certain things if he had to tell everyone how it would be paid for. I think removing that hindrance given Trump should be embraced.

That's cool. I think they should be turned into public schools and funded properly.

  17. How I know I'm about the same age as Matt. This thread felt very on the nose so far.

  18. The replies with multiple on Hillary and zero on Trump sucks.

If absolute punk were still around, I'd have a pretty good documentation of my political years. I was having similar conversations about Kerry as I was Hillary. But, even back then, no one listened to me. Now everybody knows he was a terrible candidate. I feel vindicated on that call.

  23. Most politicians that have been around for more than 5 years are terrible candidates. They're politicians.

Just a reminder that 12 years ago a weird sound sunk a candidate's campaign.... admitting to sexual assault on tape leads to the presidency.

  25. It is weird Kerry was never expected to atone for his loss the way Hillary was though. He went back to his political life immediately and blamed the Swift Boats.
