  2. Saudi is actually doing a whole rebranding thing, you remember that headline about women being able to get jobs without a male? That's part of that, those are basically all government jobs. the plan as a whole is basically typical corporate buzzwords about innovation and disrupting modernizing

Hey, remember how everyone was saying the State of the Union was Trump's turning point and turned Presidential then and there? Ah, simpler times.

I'm literally waiting for him to resign so I can say that he became president of the United States that day

It did give us the great "Today Trump became President of the United States" meme.

  7. Oh yeah, Saudi loves ISIS. Turkey does too. In Syria, Sunni are the majority but the government is secular. Politically it aligns with the Shia regimes though, which is obviously because of a confluence of hundreds of years of history, but essentially the Sunni theocracies are ideologically opposed to secularism and the Sunni secular gvmts (turkey) are politically opposed. Assad, and much of the upper echelon of the Syrian state (and Army before the war) are Alawi Shia. The opposition is mostly Sunni, and historically the minorities in Syria have supported Assad.

I don't know the details to the new arms deal, but I'm just assuming I probably won't like it, given the administration. I need to read up more on the details for sure and get a better grasp (assuming they actually gave us details).

I can definitely appreciate your frustrations, even if I can't truly understand the dynamics quite like someone who lives it every day. I work with and consider myself a good friend of someone who is a first generation Egyptian and I feel like I hear similar frustrations from her as I do from reading some of your posts. Her parents are definitely on the conservative side (Egyptian Orthodox). I also work with a couple of people that came to America from Lebanon for college and have since started families and working here. Their families back home are pretty conservative. Great people, but there are some dynamics going on where I just have to stay in my lane and then ask questions when it's appropriate. Even something as simple as Sabra hummus for example. But all of them have taught me a lot about issues overseas and the culture here in the states. I'm not perfect, but I feel like I am way more nuanced since I befriended them. I guess what I'm trying to tell you through this long post fwiw is that I'm glad there is someone here that can speak to MENA issues that a lot of us can't speak to, quite frankly.

"An avid hunter, Liautaud acknowledges the biggest misconception about him is that people still connect him to 10-year-old photos of him posing with elephants, rhinos and other endangered animals he shot, photos which have prompted calls for boycotts in recent years. Just asking him about it makes his eyes well up with tears.

"I choose to hunt and I choose to fish," he said. "Everything I've done has been totally legal. And the meat has been eaten, if not by me than by someone I'm with. I don't hunt big African game anymore."

Jimmy John's founder opens up on expansion, big game hunting, possible IPO

Great job guys, you made him cry.
