As a former cancer patient, this pre-existing stuff won't affect my insurance because I am on a group plan through my work right?

I feel bad that I even have to ask and feel even worse at the amount of relief I will feel if I won't be affected.

I used to get into pretty heated arguments with people about pre-existing conditions and how though I was on a group plan since I started my career that had I of not been lucky enough to get a job with good insurance that I would probably be dead and people tried to tell me that wasn't true.

All I know, is that at one point I lost health insurance during my cancer time because work hours were cut, specifically to my wife at the time, to make sure they weren't full time employees anymore. There were rumors floating around her work place that I was literally the reason hours were cut so they wouldn't have to pay for our insurance anymore.

Tried to get on a private plan, this was all before ACA, and was told that my monthly fees would be in the 1,500 dollar range due to the cancer pre-existing condition. "Luckily," I had finished the chemotherapy treatments about a month or so before and was in remission. So, I just had to sit back and hope that my cancer didn't come back because we couldn't afford the scans that cost a couple thousand dollars that I had to get every three months.

Yeah your premiums are decided by everyone in your place of employment, so it's mroe up to what kind of insurance your employer buys. Generally, large group plans don't have to buy coverage that leaves out treatment for stuff like that.

The possible issue facing you is the return of lifetime and annual caps on coverage...those could possibly be coming back. So if, god forbid, your cancer comes back, whatver plan you guys get next year could have like a 500,000 lifetime limit, or a 200,000 annual limit, or etc....so if it ended up being a long, protracted battle with the disease, you could start pushing up against those limits, at which point they would stop paying for the treatments.

I have pre-existing condition for cancer and this is going to impact me big time. I mean I'm never going to be able to own anything without a cosigner bc medical bills have ruined my credit and we pay as much as we can. Seriously, without my parents I don't know how I would still be afloat.

Yeah, I actually had made it a point to do better than the people around me with credit when I was in my early college years. Then, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's and my credit has been absolute shit for about 10 years now. Can't even get a crappy credit card at the moment. I still have collections sitting on my credit from medical stuff from well over 7 years ago that just keep getting sold from one collection agency to another. It's insane, how not only did I go through a battle with cancer, but it also ruined my credit score for the foreseeable future.

I'm even the type of person that didn't want people to feel bad for me and would constantly try to get my doctor to tell me what I had done specifically to get the cancer and the only answer I ever got was bad luck. So, it was just shit luck after shit luck.

If this fails by one vote and we can get Trump staring in anger going "I want to know who lied" we'll have reached peak fusion of politics and entertainment

I am in the process of finding a new psychiatrist (my pcp has basically been writing bridge prescriptions since I moved here) and I'm reeeeeally not looking forward to getting my anxiety and depression rediagnosed on my record just in time for pre-existing conditions to come back - plus with my brother's current mental health stuff, I'm having my next shrink evaluate me for BPD and ADD as well. Joy.
