I'm saying that when they have these top executive positions they are not speaking as "Tim Cook" but more as the CEO of apple. Just questioning their motives based on their positions. I'll be watching though.

I think this reduces it down to the individual, which doesn't actually address how they operate within systems, e.g., Hollywood executives donate to liberal causes, but they also won't cast black actors because they don't think it's profitable.

Tim Cook did come out because he believed it would help other people who were scared to come out and he told share holders to sell their stock if they didn't believe in man-made global warming.

I am in the same boat in regard to watching how different CEOs react to DACA once all is said and done.

I'm just taking the wait and see approach to believing them. Like the reason I respect what Kaepernick has done so much is because he knew he wasn't going to play this season, he knew that he was going to lose money, but he had to speak out about what he believes and hasn't stopped or slowed down at all even though it might end his career in the NFL.

I certainly agree that there are CEOs, COOs, executives, etc. who cowardly push aside what they have spoken for in order to benefit their businesses.

I'm am selective with which business leaders I keep up with (if they say one thing and do another then I don't care to keep up with what they say), so my exposure is limited to the type of leaders that match your example.

Also, as it relates to DACA, there is a politics of innocence here that is really quite destructive. Obviously, I support doing whatever can to ensure that they can stay and that should go without saying; however, juxtaposing their innocence against those of other immigrants undermines our abilities to actually push the discourse surrounding immigration to the left, insofar as this group is privileged over another, less innocent group. Similarly, talking about it in terms of the economic benefits provided by recipients of DACA is gross; typically, this is how CEO's talk about it, because that's how they see the world. First and foremost, the discussion should begin with that immigrants are deserving of being treated as humans and we should open the country to them, regardless of if they came here as children or adults. There shouldn't be a classed immigration system that is determined by your skill or your innocence. There should be a system whereby people can come here freely. In fact, in many cases, they are fleeing murderous, autocratic leaders that we are propping up, so this is the least that we can do.

  10. 100% agree.

However, it doesn't seem like anyone in the political realm agrees with us. Hell, Bernie voted against immigration reform and has a pretty protectionalist mindset. No one seems to want to say: yeah, we're the richest country in the world, we should have more open borders and help people ... all people ... because we should. Seems like that's the third rail of politics right now.

pretty much what I was trying to say about CEO's only much better than I could say it.

I mean, I agree that few talk like this. At the same time, I think, even when talking about DACA, we have to be cognizant of how we construct a message, because it can often play into the hands of a classed and racialized hierarchy. If we do it correctly, then it gives us more space with which to broaden the demands.
