Seems like a weird thing to be all "I told you so" about but okay

  2. I was told I was wrong there was a messaging and platform issue, it's pretty clear a few days later I was not.

And my argument from the start was that it was extremely insufficient and came no where close to the communication/information dissemination systems set up by the right wing (let alone mainstream news orgs). This is one outcome of a bad/poor coms strategy. Snarky twitter responses don't reach anyone in comparison.

Which I said was one reason why it was difficult to get a message out and would allow people to place whatever "negative" stories they want on the group for as long as they want specifically because of that ambiguity.

  7. Bernie email:
So in two weeks, I am going to introduce our Medicare-for-all, single-payer health care legislation. We're going to put together a grassroots movement that organizes people in all parts of this country much like we did during the presidential race.

There will be rallies, buttons, bumper stickers, shirts and most importantly people organizing in their communities across the country. This is not going to be a quick or easy fight. We'll be taking on the insurance companies, the drug companies, Wall Street and all those who make billions in profit from the current dysfunctional system. I cannot do this alone, and I need your help to fund this work:

Curious to see how this ends up working ... the health care stuff was a great motivator to rally people around, I hope that momentum can continue.

Newspapers literally sourced an author of an article in a piece on antifa, then lied and said they attacked a random person, who was actually a Nazi. The author pointed it out and nothing changed. Numerous articles have come out defending or explaining antifa. All one has to do is literally look for them. None of those people, who are actually part of radical left, are being invited to speak on mainstream television. Why? And then, liberals and centrists effectively did the same thing Trump did by making an equivalence between Nazis and antifa. So, if you actually think it's a matter of communication, rather than it actually being ideological, I don't know what to tell you. They're literally collaborating with right-wing fascists because they're ideologically opposed to antifas project. Even if they explained with exact precision, these same centrists and liberals would still be attacking them, and assisting Trump in criminalizing them, whilst the Nazi movement is able to grow. Once again, that's collaboration.

  15. I am aware, part my entire argument was about misinformation and the inability to effectively, on a large scale, counter it. I feel like no one actually read what I was saying and instead just started arguing against the points they're now saying back to me ...

My point is that if someone has to look for articles you're losing the communication game. Searching for it right now on Twitter, Facebook, and Google turns up far, far, far more of the opposite of the wanted results. That's bad.

Again, this is why a big part of what I was talking about was putting together a communication network that can reach people outside of the MSM. The right has done this to great success via Facebook and Youtube, the left ... not so much. And the right has moved into disinformation in a massive way and it sees more traction than anything the left puts out. That's bad.

And why do you think most people see an equivalence there? When you go talk to someone that just got off work, and they see the news and all the fake shit on their Facebook page, what do you think the average person thinks when there is no counter programming or messaging to any of that coming to them?

If you don't think there's a communication issue, I don't know what to tell you. The proof is sitting right in front of you.

So, my proposal would be to circumvent and reach the people ... to build a network that is capable of reaching around the gatekeepers of MSM and actually getting the message to the people so they understand better what is going on.

I'm not so sure that's true, but 1) if the network and strategy I think is needed were built, it wouldn't matter, 2) I think there will always be a large faction that opposes violence of any kind and understanding that is also central to a message strategy that addresses that.

I'm reading what you're saying. I understand your argument. I reject it because the premise is false, i.e., people are not trying to communicate with folks through various other means. They are. You don't have to believe that the formation of this narrative is ideological, complete with the assistance of the center and center-left. You are entirely within your rights to believe that there is no complicity with the fascists. The news is objective and all that, and it really is a problem of communication. It isn't like there's anything in the recent history of the media where they jumped on bandwagon, helped the state, marginalized critical voices and cost hundreds of thousands of people their lives.

  19. Type "antifa" into YouTube, look at the videos that are +1m views. Looking into the structure and groups that helped build Trump's support and continue to push out his "message" from a "grassroots" standpoint, are shockingly good at what they do.

he's talking out both sides of his mouth and wants the legislature to deal with it, aka pass a bill killing daca

  21. My premise is not that people aren't trying, my premise is they're failing and that the structures and platforms and outreach and organization to reach millions is not there, or not working in comparison to what the counter programing is doing.

Clearly you're not reading what I'm writing, when you quote me saying "So, my proposal would be to circumvent and reach the people ... to build a network that is capable of reaching around the gatekeepers of MSM and actually getting the message to the people so they understand better what is going on" ... and respond with something that misses it entirely.

  22. Pro-Russia bots are hyping Antifa threat on Twitter — while downplaying white supremacist violence: report
Bloomberg reports that Hamilton 68, an online dashboard designed by researchers at the Alliance for Securing Democracy to track the influence of Russian propaganda bots on social media, has found that the bots have been working to hype up the threat posted by Antifa, the anti-fascism group that endorses the use of violence to directly confront neo-Nazis, the Ku Klux Klan, and other white supremacist organizations.

“A top theme users boosted the week after the Charlottesville clashes was ‘alt-right alarmism’ about the left-wing anti-fascist movement, known as Antifa, according to the dashboard findings,” writes Bloomberg. “The most-tweeted link in the Russian-linked network followed by the researchers was a petition to declare Antifa a terrorist group.”

The researchers behind Hamilton 68 see the tactics being used by Russian propaganda bots — which also pointedly attacked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) over his criticism of President Donald Trump’s response to Charlottesville — as a dry run for what’s to come in the 2018 and 2020 elections.

Laura Rosenberger, senior fellow and director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy, tells Bloomberg that the bots at the moment are “sowing seeds of discord” while “potentially laying the groundwork for what they’re going to do in 2018 or 2020” to influence American elections.

  23. Pro-Russian Bots Take Up the Right-Wing Cause After Charlottesville — ProPublica
The pro-Russian networks are also injecting Russian propaganda about other countries into U.S. far-right circles. After Jones’ InfoWars interviewed Stranahan on Aug. 15, Stranahan’s charge that the U.S. is hypocritical for supporting Nazis in Ukraine (a years-old Kremlin line) while condemning them at home appeared on fringe websites such as Mint Press News, TheLastAmericanVagabond.com, BBSNews and JewWorldOrder, Nimmo found.

“Given the number of channels that propagated the narrative at the same time, it is not possible to say whether a single channel or many different channels inspired the American actors’ linkage of Charlottesville and Ukraine,” Nimmo wrote in a blog post. “What does appear probable is that the U.S. activists derived their narrative directly from the Kremlin and its supporters  —  and thus amplified Russian disinformation in America.”
