There are many amazing progressive/left POC voices out there that we can elevate. I personally do not believe we have to see tweets from him because of the comments he's made. Tweets like the ones I just read are ones that dismiss mass genocide, and are making LGBT people feel worse about themselves. That goes way beyond problematic. It has made me uncomfortable. I do not believe I or anyone else who don't want to see his tweets are necessarily policing or not listening.

Read the link I posted. That's enough for me to ignore him/them.

  2. I'm not policing black voices. I don't know about the guy's past. I'm not digging through everyone's tweets every time I see something I find interesting and being shared a lot. I assume a lot of people say a lot of problematic shit. There have been many discussions about why that is. You can keep arguing with me about it but you're gonna get the same answer as when people tell me to ban Dom for his past words, I'm not into policing marginalized voices because of their past and I will listen to them in the present even if they're sexist and homophobic.

to refer to your edit - you keep saying this like it's something he's only done a handful of times. it's not

I never said that at all. I'm done with this conversation. I'm not policing black voices about one topic because I disagree with others. I hope that they can change their feelings on those other things. And the people I know in person I try to even talk about that stuff with in time. But I'm not ignoring them because of it. You can do whatever you want, but I'm not changing my opinion on that. I'm gonna read homophobic black men and women and listen to what they say. I disagree with that part of what they say. It makes me uncomfortable. But I'm listening to it anyway.

here's a video of cenk ignoring the part of a question about the amernian genocide while simultaneously defining socialism incorrectly

I've actually been to Turkey and have studied the Armenian Genocide a fair amount... I definitely feel like the name for the network is not the best as a result. I obviously get the connotations Cenk WANTED to get from it, but the dark history of that group muddles that considerably.

That being said I personally don't believe the name renders all their content worthless (like I said I'm more of an occasional watcher anyway and don't like some aspects of their programming already), but I can see why some may disagree.

alright cool whatever just know it makes at least me very uncomfortable as a queer person knowing that his voice in particular you are determined to amplify. if a woman made a good point about feminism but was also super racist on her timeline i wouldn't share her. if a gay guy speaks to his experiences but also spends tens of tweets spouting misogynistic shit, i wouldn't share him. i dont think it's unreasonable to extend this to someone like Kobra who certainly has valid things to say about race and his experiences as a black person but also happens to spend a lot of time being misogynistic and homophobic.

and for the final goddamn time it's not that im not listening christ

I think this is a hard debate. I personally fall more on the side that if someone makes a good point on one specific subject, I'm not consigning everything they've ever said on every other issue by sharing it (I'm bisexual fwiw). Not saying there aren't exceptions, but I generally lean towards being willing to find common ground with most people if possible, even if I find them "problematic" in other areas.

For me it's personal, it's more than just disagreement.

@sophos34's previous posts are important as well.

Also, Secular Talk and The David Pakman Show are part of TYT's 'network' and are generally better at expressing their points and are more so progressive than just obnoxious hypocritical liberals as I'm seeing with TYT.

while i understand that i think it's pretty central to intersectional justice, i think we should hold people accountable for this kind of stuff

I occasionally watch those shows, I will say I prefer them overall to Cenk also.

That actually makes the name a LOT more fucked up in context... I know that's a touchy subject for a lot of Turkish people/people of Turkish descent but it's still very disappointing.

Sure. In my personal opinion however I don't think that necessarily means shutting out that person's perspectives in the future in other areas. It CAN, but I like to look at it case-by-case.

But railroading Hillary with countless investigations if she had won would've still been totally okay, right?

i dont care how someone was taught or where they come from, if you cant flat out say you were wrong 25 years after you publicly made the claim you can fuck right off.
