I still don't understand how there isn't a time limit on how far into a new Congress the rules of the Senate can be changed. Like, if Ginsburg was to die next year, and the Dems filibuster Trump's nominee, could McConnell still change the Senate rules with less than a year left in that Congress?

I only ask because this whole argument that they should let Gorsuch on the Court to preserve the filibuster is just asinine if McConnell can literally take it away whenever he wants. Like, it doesn't matter what nominee they filibuster, whether it's this one or the next one, because they'll be chomping at the bit to pack the Court with as many conservative lunatics as possible. Especially with the potential next one, because it will shift the balance. So really, might as well fight now while you still can because it doesn't matter when you fight, it's going to be the last time.

  14. How is Ted Cruz even a real person? I feel like he should be the villain in a children's movie.

I think one unintended consequence of Trump selecting Gorsuch is that the guy is a strong opponent of increased power for federal agencies - aka the things Trump needs to carry out his executive orders. It really seems like Trump or his team didn't look too heavily into that issue.

Except that he probably can't because if he did it would be ruled unconstitutional and fought in... the Supreme Court...

  22. I can't wait for Dems to continue to be skiddish about the filibuster and then have McConnell move to get rid of it before they can even use it. morons

I'm honestly surprised they aren't just doing it outright. They have four years to confirm whoever they want. They really should just eliminate it now while they still have the political cover of Trump's constant distractions.
