Theoretically, if Sanders were to overtake Clinton in the popular vote (which I realize is almost impossible at this point), I would be all for superdelegates switching to Sanders. As it stands now, however, I am inclined to agree that I don't sit well with the superdelegates overriding the will of voters in any context.

However, the argument can certainly be made that the superdelegates were designed to override the will of voters when necessary to do what's best for the party as a whole, and that support for Sanders, as the candidate in many ways more likely to defeat Trump, could be a reasonable interpretation of "what's best for the party as a whole".

Right. But then you concede that super delegates *are* a good thing.

I'm honestly torn on super delegates. As I pointed out a few posts ago, I think there are deeper flaws with the nomination system and, given the current system, I can both understand the merits of having someone who can do "whats best for the party as a whole", while also the benefits of not letting the party squash the will of the voters.

The superdelegates aren't the problem. The DNC's infrastructure, of which they are a part, being oriented towards a particular candidate is the problem. That's what the delegates represent. One can get lost in the semantics because that helps the argument, but you know what people mean when they refer to them.

That's my issue with the superdelegates...it's a formal way of showing that lobby and interest groups are getting the candidate they want, regardless of what the popular vote is.

The guy defending Trump right now on CNN is getting destroyed and falling apart and it's kinda hilarious.

Holy shit that was both a train wreck and amazing. But not an amazing like "wow that was great to watch!"...it was just...wow.

I don't think I've ever actually listened that long to the talking heads. Usually I tune them out when I have a cable news network on.

Clinton winning NJ by the margin expected, but I am shocked to see her leading in SD, thought those states up there would be an easy Sanders win. Hmph

Yeah, apparently every Tuesday with multiple primaries is considered Super Tuesday now lol. They have done it multiple times this year

I love all the "wait wait wait wait"s and just the facial expressions of everyone else. There were points where I wasn't paying attention to a thing he was saying and just watched the reactions.

I'm being reminded that election coverage is generally hit or miss. Example of a big miss would be hyping up the countdown to NJ results, only to say it was too close to call and taking a half hour to have any numbers.

Good god the faces Hillary makes when first coming on stage always makes me cringe. I mean like what the hell are those faces

  21. Jeez Bernie got destroyed in Jersey. Is that a result of him putting all time and effort in CA?

I would think so. He only spent two days here and it was over a month before the primary. I figured he would come back again, but instead he spent every single day after that in Cali. There also really didn't seem to be a whole lot of volunteering for his campaign going on around here either, based on what I saw.

Exactly. The superdelegates are just a conceptual microcosm of what is actually wrong: the corporate fraternity within a political party that supersedes public interest and permeates not just through its ranks, but through its modes of organization, modes of subsistence, and, most alarmingly, its modes of communication by way of the major news networks and publiciations. The initial media blackout was disturbing, but the subsequent actions of publications like the NY Times and WashPo were together the most disturbing narrative in this election cycle by far.

South Dakota primary is pretty weird right now lol. Left side of the state votes Sanders while the right side goes for Hillary. I also fail to comprehend how Hillary is winning by a healthy lead in Montana, a place that is literally the recipe for a big Sanders win

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

the problem with this is that the media has done fuck all of this sort until trump basically got the nomination. this isn't the first time the trump administration has said an absurdly racist, misogynistic, or simply false thing, but it's an astonishingly rare instance of a media panel actually fucking calling them on it.
