The guy who created Clinton's private email server is taking the 5th during his upcoming deposition. The optics are not great.

    Booker is corny as shit.

He's also a legit nice guy from everything we know. Not nice in the Obama way but nice in the actually seems to care about the people he's voted to represent on a visceral level. Not a lot of those in politics.

Yeah, the VP line is pretty cringey. But yeah, everyone I know who's met him thinks he's an awesome guy; he'll eventually be in the White House in some capacity.

And clearly he's only supporting HIllary because he was paid. There's no possible way he could actually support her.

If Clinton is elected hopefully she'll take our lousy governor off our hands and put him in a cabinet position.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is it surprising that Booker is endorsing Clinton?

    "
Booker's whole career has been a testament to a poisonous financial-corporatist consensus, which dresses up the interests of big money in post-ideological garb. (That helped him win the support this weekend of the most powerful man in New Jersey: George Norcross III, the feared political boss and owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who said he liked Booker because he was "a Democrat that's fiscally conservative yet socially progressive.")

Remember that $100m donation to the Newark schools from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, promoted with its very own Oprah episode? The cash didn't go into the Newark school system; it's controlled by a non-governmental fund, with Booker on the board, and has been so unaccountable that the ACLU had to sue the city to learn what was going on. (Booker's office first denied that the emails the ACLU sought existed; when a judge ordered the emails to be made public, the Booker team released them on Christmas Eve.)

Add to this Booker's privatization of the Newark sanitation department, and his repeated attempts to do the same to the water supply, and the picture becomes clearer. In the world Booker and his cohort inhabit, there are no systemic problems and no class interests. There are only pesky inefficiencies, to be fixed with better data and more money from smart, happy, rich people who can spend their cash far more sensibly than the public sector."

    Huh?

Did you not see him infamously shilling for big finance and criticizing Obama for being too harsh and "demonizing" the financial industry?

Newark Mayor Cory Booker Defends Bain Capital, Attacks Obama Campaign

I don't care how cheesy someone is if they are complicit in theft from millions and the corruption of our political system.

Because he parades himself as an ultra-left populist sweetheart and he's largely gotten a pass. Being a vegan and preaching love and tolerance on Twitter doesn't excuse the fact that he sells out his constituents in the interest of Goldman Sachs and the like and he endorses one of the most violent and exploitative neoliberals of this political era. Some commitment to peace and equality.

    Fuck Cory Booker.

Yeah Cory Booker has and will again sell out the people who voted for him. He's awful, and the liberal networks and talking heads fell for him (including the Daily Show) and set up his persona as he sold everyone out.

Believe it or not, you can take corporate money, defend capitalism, and still be a legitimately nice dude who cares about people.

I also never got some "ultra-left" vibe from him. He's always seemed like a run of the mill liberal, ideologically.

Being a nice dude and caring about people is irrelevant. What the results of your actions are matter. Booker is belongs to the Clinton lineage of liberalism; that is, the pragrmatist, technocratic sort of approach. As such, he is less likely to see government as a means to alleviate various issues. He welcomes the idea of socially responsible businesses intervening and be subsidized by the government to apply market principles to, say, the issue of poverty. The problem is, it doesn't actually work, it worsens the conditions on the ground and there is no such thing as a socially responsible business.

You can. Booker isn't, at least to the extent of caring enough about people to limit his own interests.

Cory Booker is smart...really smart. Smart enough to know that much of what he legislates and allows furthers purposes that are inherently and undeniably contrary to the interests of the people for whom he espouses so much love. What is most frustrating, even, is the

And, for the record, there is nothing (save some tabloidian rumors about former secret service agents) that would suggest ot me that Hillary Clinton is a pleasant person to her peers and is well-liked by those who know her. However, her murder of thousands to the sole benefit of her own interests in money and power, however alienated from her own conception of good and self-virtue, disqualifies her (in my view) from being "legitimately nice."

This'll end up going down the ideology rabbit hole again if we continue, but basically, being a moderate liberal isn't anywhere close to an indication of "not caring enough". This is the same dude, BTW, that came to national prominence specifically because of kind shit he did for people while mayor. It wasn't his wall street connections that got his name in the media.

Oh, he's also the co-author of the major criminal justice reform bill. I know, I know, he did the real shitty thing and compromised on it, so it's not as good as he publicly admits he would like. But it also wasn't going to pass without enough votes--again, threatening to go down the ideology rabbit hole here.

I was never commenting on the nice-ness of Hillary, I always got the vibe that she's not personable at all, let alone kind. But the Time cover story on Bernie last week quotes Sanders himself saying "I probably shouldn't say this, but I like her." after the two randomly met up in an airport early in the campaign. Before the negative adds started, but disliking Clinton has never been strictly about negative campaigning...especially for someone with the ideology of Sanders.

Hearing more about how violence and protests at Trump rallies are Bernie's/Bernie supporters' fault. Great. So, are Bernie supporters going to hand Trump the White House, or are they violently opposed to his campaign? I can't keep up with this shit.
