  1. It's millennial week!

    I think it's going a tad better than Trump's "African-American outreach" week.

Just have to say this, thanks to you all for contributing to this thread. I live in a state where very few share my views, and it's great to have an escape with like minded people...

Haha yeah. It's absolutely infuriating listening to unelectable politicians like Ed Balls and Neil Kinnock claiming that Corbyn can't win an election as if they have experience of doing so themselves.

Even if Owen Smith wins on Saturday, I genuinely don't think a return to the Brown/Miliband style of politics would win in 2020. Of course, it's not going to be easy for Corbyn to win in 2020 either, and the odds are very strongly against him, but I'm still hopeful. The problem is that his views are regularly misrepresented by the media and tarnished as being "hard left". But in all honesty, it would be a challenge for anyone to lead Labour to victory in the current political climate imo. I'm very interested in the idea of a "progressive alliance" between parties. If Corbyn can figure out a way to bypass the right wing media, and can get his message out there, I genuinely believe he would be popular with the general public.

Yeah, there's been diminishing returns for that route anyway so I think the whole "electability" line of argument with Smith is a bit debatable, to say nothing of the types of policy and rhetoric it often ends up tied to, or him being a total gaffe machine. The stupid shit about shortbread and whatever else that only really matters to people on Twitter and the Guardian comment section aside, Corbyn seems to have been doing better in that respect recently. At least in principle I think there is room for actual left-leaning policy, considering that, for example, big Tory figures like May, Gove and even Cameron have used the rhetoric comparitively successfully in spite of it not matching up with their actual politics.

  22. I still don't get this or why no one asks. Polytheistic religions are not allowed in America anymore? What's the "one God"? We're just totally done with pretending the First Amendment is a thing from this candidate?

Definitely. I'd be very interested to see how the polls would shift after a proper televised debate between Corbyn and May. It would be a great opportunity for Corbyn to call her out on the hypocrisy of the left-leaning rhetoric she uses when compared to the actual policies her government implements. After seeing how she totally crumbled under the pressure of being challenged over grammar schools at PMQs, I think a similarly strong performance by Corbyn at a televised debate in the run-up to the 2020 general election could win over large sections of the general public. Nick Clegg achieved something similar after a strong performance at a TV debate in 2010 ("Cleggmania"). I'm probably being too optimistic though, haha. I'm guessing she'd probably do a David Cameron and refuse to participate in a proper one-on-one debate anyway.
