Probably name recognition, I hope that many people don't support gay conversion therapy and repealing Roe V Wade

Obama has been much more consistent in his beliefs (which feels silly to say knowing his history on certain issues), hasn't been tied to countless inferences of corruption, came from humble beginnings and isn't the spouse of a former president, didn't promote the 90s war on welfare, didn't dehumanize a generation of black men, doesn't support the death penalty (again, ironic), hasn't been as shamelessly in favor of big finance, didn't insult a generation of voters, and, most importantly, isn't only months removed from disenfranchising and colluding against millions of voters with purer intentions than his.

I still like Obama relative to other politicians. I don't like Hillary-- frankly, even when I was 16 I had more respect and personal liking (obviously not more in common philosophically) for John McCain than Clinton.

  4. I actually don't get Bill's favs compared to Hillary's the most.

I guess if I had to pick something that Trotsky didn't outline, I would say that, eight years ago, she ran a racist campaign to undermine Barack Obama. That's recent history, so David won't be upset with me bringing it up.

My hometown's ABC station posted on Facebook about two different things today: a dog who was put down at a shelter when it wasn't supposed to be, and the riots in Charlotte. Without getting into the horrible, murderous comments of the Charlotte post, I just wish that white people cared as much about black men as they did about dogs.

Update: The dog shelter was shut down until further notice. If only we could shut down police stations that needlessly execute.

This might seem like a dumb question given the post you're responding to, but do you think these things explain (most of) the difference between their ratings? I don't necessarily. Not that I've got any proof.

You still really believe this? She won the popular vote by 12pts. Like ... come on. That race, historically, wasn't even close.

  9. I think the occam's razor explanation is that Presidents (a lot of the time, with decent econ fundamentals) see a bounce at the end of their terms. He and Michelle got really nice convention bounces that didn't fade (unlike Hillary's) and that's reflective in the polling as well.

I might say the fact that he means what he says makes him more dangerous than Trump.

Sort of like how I feel about Ted Cruz. Sometimes I have to remind myself that we are at least fortunate in that Cruz didn't win the GOP nomination.

Bill Clinton had a 60% approval rating at the end of his 2nd term and this was after his infidelity and impeachment.

  13. Carter and GW were both around 30%. Then if you remove Nixon (duh), the only other one that didn't hit 50% was Truman going back to the 1950s.

And the GWB approval rating in 2016? 47%

America, by and large, likes ex-Presidents.

I think some of it is also likability/charm, people seem to find Hillary lacking , and Barry and Bill are definitely charming
Is it sexist, probably at least part of it

Any person with a modicum of respect for the credibility of our electoral processes would.

She likely would have won regardless, of course. That doesn't change the fact that her campaign was despicably dirty and corrupt, from push polling, to the "Bernie Bros" myth, to refusing debates, to the unprecedented (for the federal level) voting irregularities such as those in Brooklyn, to strong arming media outlets, to hilariously trying to pass a partisan dog whistle as a critique of Sanders' progressivism....yeah, if you can shrug that off as "mehh, she would have won anyways," we have very different views of the political world.

    You mean their likability ratings?

Partially, but certainly not entirely. Clinton has been the subject of a great deal more partisan attacks over the past two decades. That plays in as well.

  18. Less good poll.

  19. Yep. I wanna see both of those. And a NH poll with methodology I like more.

  20. Trump gains from LV screen in today's polls:

    Marquette WI: +3
    Fox NV: +2
    Fox OH: +2
    Fox NC: +1
    NBC/WSJ National: +1

    Think I got that right.

  21. Only if you are completely ignorant on what our actual electoral process is ...

So you basically just said: for ... running a political campaign.

  22. That OH number makes me think it should be very much in the leans/probable Trump category.

That NV number worries me. And I haven't liked FL in a while. GOTV will be paramount there.

  23. The worst irony of the election cycle has to be reading Bernie supporters say verbatim what Clinton supporters said 8 years ago.
