I quit drinking for the month of September. Having to sit through that debate without a drink is going to be excruciating.

 

My working theory is media will declare Trump the winner. Polls will declare Hillary the winner. Polls themselves will move very little. Debates have historically not had a huge effect on the polls.

I was thinking about this kinda in the context of Nate's tweets this morning. I've been assuming that the debates will move the needle significantly for Clinton. They might. But yeah, that's not a thing historically and it hasn't actually happened yet and might not.

I just can't see debates telling us anything new, Hillary Clinton is smart and qualified, Trump is babbling and making everything up as he goes along

Idk, man...that doesn't make it not true? Not in all the ways that it should or that we'd like it to, but in enough ways, with a real tangible impact of people's lives.

Agreed, but I would say the larger threat is a system that locks voters into an endless cycle of choosing between two awful candidates, giving the voters no real power.

I think if we can slowly move to a place where voter detach themselves from a strict political affiliation, we get better candidates.
