What is striking is, the people who are saying she is unfit hold as their hero a man that was afflicted with Alzheimer's quite early on in his presidency. Similarly, some will say FDR was a great president. The attacks against Hillary are clearly ableist and gendered. I wish that the media would pay more attention to her monstrous policies than her health.

The "she couldn't compromise" position is without merit. All executives compromise, and there's no reason that she wouldn't just as much as any. In fact, independents have demonstrated a greater ability to build bipartisan coalitions because they aren't necessary participants in the partisan bickering. Sanders based his congressional career on getting Republicans and Democrats to support amendments that were left of both.

Stein is no more "unrealistic" than Sanders, who wanted to make all state colleges tuition-free, institute single payer, ban fracking-- basically most of Stein's unrealistic policy statements.

Likelihood of winning is the only basis to support Clinton over Stein, and that's not issue based at all.

The criticisms of Stein from the left are likewise gendered. Sanders was seen as passionate and bold, yet Stein's leftness is characterized as wacky, fantastical, and irrational.

So apparently Yazidi parents were sent body parts of their daughters with video tapes of them being raped and tortured. Per UN testimony.

There isn't punishment proportional to that.

I gotta disagree with that. I think that Stein is much more unrealistic than Sanders. Yes, they both want tuition free college, single payer, and banning fracking, which are all at the time unrealistic, but Stein goes further than these things. I think for the most part Bernie did have big, bold plans, but they were still in the ballpark of happening. Stein goes out of the ballpark and reaches new levels of unrealistic. She wants to also cancel all student debt, which is definitely not a realistic goal. Her green new deal to get to 100% renewable by 2030, although would be fantastic, would never be able to pass congress when half of it doesn't even recognize climate change as real. 2050, like Bernie proposed, is a much more achievable plan. She also wants to cut military spending by 50% and close every single one of our foreign bases. That's completely pie in the sky. She also claims that she will end poverty and guarantee economic rights to everyone. I don't know how this would be done, but it doesn't seem like something that would be able to happen. Her platform sounds like paradise on paper, but we will never know because it will never happen

I also want to bring up another thing since we are on the topic. Not only are these plans unrealistic, but they are costly. How does she pay for them if you don't mind answering that? She claims she will raise taxes on the rich while lowering taxes on the middle and lower classes. Even Bernie had to raise taxes on the middle class a little to pay for his plans. Her green new deal would cost about as much as the Obama stimulus, she somehow needs to pay for single payer healthcare, free universal childcare, and paid family leave all without raising taxes on the middle class, as well as her ending poverty plan. I obviously support higher taxes on the rich but all of this simply cannot be paid for by just raising on the rich. Jill's plans don't stack up, but the debt would.

The liberal imagination and desire for structural change is stunted. Thank god no one relies upon them to be on the ground, engaging movements that are trying to do that precise thing.

You're rationalizing an irrational viewpoint: that "unrealistic" is logistically different than "really unrealistic" when both are bound to be constrained by necessary concessions and weren't therefore realistic in any of their articulations. You're dogging Stein for something for which you praised Sanders. That doesn't make sense.

Sanders was never going to be able to fully (or even majorly) do what he prescribed, and neither could Stein. Stein just formulates her agenda as being more extreme than that of Sanders because she's in the leftmost party. I think everyone here frankly would prefer that greater extent of action, even if the lesser extent (Sanders) was logistically impracticable in the first place.

Also, none of those goals are any more unrealistic than getting single payer within the next eight years.

Yes it can, even if it shouldn't be and wouldn't be tenable long-term. She hasn't formulated a specific plan, but we could pay for just about anything by properly taxing the rich.

The nominal income tax for the ultra-rich is 39.6%, but the effective rate is estimated at anywhere from 6% to 17%. The estate tax for the ultra-rich is 35% and is easily circumvented by issuing non-liquid inheritances. If you raise the effective income tax to 50% and make the estate tax greater and more comprehensive (I would personally favor a progressive estate tax that starts at 100k at ~10% and tops out at 80% for those in excess of 500 million, or something similar).

Also, Bernie's plan only raised taxes on income earners under 500k by like...what...4% on average with the 2% healthcare premium tax?

I support raising the taxes on everybody, but to say that the rich's riches just won't suffice is just not right.

I'm trying to find it, but neoliberal dick bag Chris Koster (D) issued an attack ad against creepy gun nut military masturbator Eric Greitens (R) yesterday showing that Greitens was taking 700k salary and 300k to spend on "image consultants" from his wounded veterans charity.

Was probably the most effective attack ad I've seen this cycle. Koster sucks, but I legitimately wish horrible physical harm on Greitens.

    Right. Imagine actual wealth redistribution.
I'll just add that her plan to "Establish a foreign policy based on diplomacy, international law, and human rights. End the wars and drone attacks, cut military spending by at least 50% and close the 700+ foreign military bases that are turning our republic into a bankrupt empire. Stop U.S. support and arms sales to human rights abusers, and lead on global nuclear disarmament" would also free up a whole lot of money. I don't see why liberals are pushing back on this one.

And people need to realize that switching to renewable ASAP is a little more important than whatever congress thinks about.

I'm also not convinced she would be successful in completely wiping out student debt but a significant stimulus would boost the economy by increasing the spending power of young professionals who will actually spend money. Unlike trickle down bullshit it will make a real difference for many young professionals who can't buy or are defaulting and currently crippling the housing market. Its not just throwing money into a corporate pit like bailing out the banks or the countless other corporate welfare initiatives our leaders have no problem getting through congress.

And yes Congress is going to hate these ideas. When Bernie talked about revolution and everybody cheered, what the hell did they think revolution was? Of course congress is going to be a problem that's why we would need a fucking revolution.

I also love how Costa Rica has been running on 100% renewable energy for more than two months, yet the great powerful US just can't surmise the technology or the plan that could possibly reduce our dependence by 50% within 20 fucking years.

What's becoming painfully obvious is that the majority of Sanders supporters were both ideologically vapid and really fucking lazy-- I don't know how you cheer for "revolution" for 12 months and then say "well, we have to keep being short-sighted nincompoops because other people are and I don't think we can change their minds very easily"
