Well I first don't support the notion that PAC contributions equal "being bought." And I am not comparing the two candidates. I'm saying that if you supported Bernies principles on campaign finance NEITHER candidate adheres to them. So there is no difference in my mind.

Not sure what you are asking. That 50 million is a bill showing what the republicans spent, where did they get 50 million to spend 50 million? Well, the republican party as a whole managed to raise over 700 million dollars, so I'd start there. But that number doesn't strike me as odd.

I have also heard people advocate for a 1, 8 year presidential term as opposed to 2, 4 year terms. Thoughts?

 

I've said this before without thinking too hard about it, but giving the President the option to have two, non-consecutive, 6 year terms would be my idea. They get 6 years to do their shit. If people like it, then they can run again after another 6 years are up. Spaces out elections enough so they're not spending their first term trying to win a second term, etc.

See I think something like that would only extend reelection efforts. I think removing the entire concept of reelection would force the president to focus on their policy initiatives free of the burden of election season.

I try to imagine a world where people like Elon Musk were solving complex problems as opposed to some Harvard lawyer or a Goldman Sachs exec.

 

Yeah plus they get a 6 year reprieve. Get to rest up, maybe leave the spotlight for a couple years, etc.
