She's not being compared to the almighty, she's being compared to the alternative. NPR commentary. Interesting.

I think the speech was good for those who weren't in the room. The foreign policy stuff just always throws a feel good speech, in my opinion.

Someone should loop that United song and post a 10 hour loop to YouTube

I love it. That is how a convention should end.

It sounds like you're insinuating that she's trying to keep her voice low to sound tougher, which doesn't hold up because I can't think of any other female politician that feels they have to do that. On top of that, her register has nothing to do with a monotone. A monotone refers to a lack of variance in pitch, not necessarily a low pitch. That said, criticizing her tone is nitpicking. It was, all in all, a good speech.

wasn't expecting her to be that progressive, although who knows how much of that will stick around when/if she's elected. Still pretty exciting to hear though.

If you're trying to keep yourself from sounding a certain way it's very easy to fall into a monotone speech pattern. As someone who sounds like I'm 12, I fall into this all the time.

I think the Kahn family was the best speech of the night by far. Maybe even of the Convention.

She's saying that America's greatness is tied to the strength of its national character, drawing an implicit contrast with the divisive, fear-mongering garbage that Trump has spewed for a year straight.

there's been so much sexist nonsense about the tone of Hillary's voice, saying she's screeching etc, I feel wrong commenting on it

Now we just have to get her a democratic house and senate.

He's been a good sport for 3 days, it has to be rough to see her speaking down there knowing how close he was to being in that spot and to really getting the issues he cares about front and center, far more than they will be with her as the nominee.

    Clinton 1 - Trump 0

While the speech was good, there are a ton of offers that she can't make good on and she'll never be able to live up too, lots of false promises.

Maybe it was just me, but it sounded like she had a sore throat as she was clearing her throat a few times. If you are talking about pitch of someone's voice though you are starting to get into the science of public perception that goes with mannerisms, style choices, and composure it all technically matters and there are professionals that coach her to help her.

Her temperament will be tested come Sept having to deal with a barrage of attacks from Trump and I'm guessing the biggest game of "who can dodge the scandal story better"

I feel like him seeing her pretty much directly use his ideas in her speech is not a great feeling

I love that, now that Clinton is officially the nominee, The Daily Show just did a feature poking fun of her "at least she's not Trump" appeal and it was actually pretty critical and biting (easy to buy, inconsistent on TPP and marriage equality, passively racist, etc.). It's hilarious since they were so timid about attacking Clinton during the primary and instead opted to undermine Sanders constantly, but now are going to act like she's being pressed on us.

A full 12 hours of peace? I'll take it. Seems a bit long though since a lot can happen from noon on the 20th until midnight...

I feel kinda bad for bringing it up but it was a striking contrast for me having grown up with her being the only female politician I really knew, then hearing Elizabeth Warren and Theresa May speaking recently, and now hearing her speak again (I am just getting into politics). I'm realizing now it is a sexist take because I'm not sure if I would've noticed the difference in men (except, come to it, Tim Kaine).

And now they have a NYT correspondent telling us that Clinton has actually moved left and will make leftist policy change literally seconds after saying "she's welcoming Republicans" because they are an important part of her coalition. Might as well parade out Krugman to tell us that TPP is awesome and Sanders supporters are mentally unstable sexists.

I remember learning about the JFK/Nixon debate where those that were fortunate enough to own a t.v. firmly believed that JFK won because he was deemed more handsome, where those that listened via radio firmly believed that Nixon won because he sounded more composed. Public perception is swayed ever so easily, by the smallest things. Howard Dean will never live down his enthusiastic scream.

It's crazy that that scream ended his campaign when Trump is now the nominee after all the horrible shit he's said/done
