  3. Safety is absolutely paramount for sure. It comes in numbers, never march alone. And also from awareness, getting out of spaces that become unsafe and away from riot cops (who often show up at the worst times). Haven't seen anything about any injuries last night thank god.

I would make a donation in your name or just for you to your local group if that would help? Let me know

  4. They are in this city. They're skinny white boys that get the poc movements hurt and erase what the various marginalized groups are working for. And the violence against innocent people that are on their side is going to get more hurt and accomplish nothing. White people being covered on the news is the opposite of the end goal.

I've never really posted in here. I've wanted to, but I generally don't post much in political threads. I don't like putting myself out there at times, and frankly I'm very nervous to disrupt the rhythm of everyone's disgust right now. Something is compelling me to do it. I may not post much. I do read though. I read a lot. I follow a lot of great people on Twitter and I check the news and message boards like anyone else. With that said, I was disappointed with the election like everyone in here. I couldn't believe it. I was consumed by the reality occurring before my very eyes as it happened on Tuesday night. It never crossed my mind that it was possible. How could I not have seen it? I vented. I lashed out at people and groups in my worst moments. I've seen the tweets in here of the KKK NC march (which apparently was debunked), and I got so angry. It was almost unhealthy. Why am I subjecting myself to so much anger? Just sitting around and consuming it is so awful for me right now.

Then I realized that I should have seen this election and its results coming. I just didn't because of the people and influences I surround myself with. They're all like me. They might as well be me from a political standpoint. A lot of the media is throwing around the hype word "echo chamber," and I hate to reinforce the concept, but it's true, at least for me. Sitting around and sharing the same views and opinions all the time is getting me nowhere. The people that voted for Trump have very real problems and are hurting in their own way. I chose not to pay attention to that. I still struggle to understand it, but what am I doing other than sticking to my side of things and judging them? I'll continue to question them, but I will not attack them. It does me no good. It doesn't really help anything.

I'm glad everyone is finding this thread a source of support, but I encourage everyone to continue to listen to both sides. You may not agree with any of it, but there is no such thing as worthless knowledge, particularly in the pursuit of understanding. I'm going to diversify my Twitter follows. I'm going to maybe switch to a new station or podcast once in awhile. Sitting around and saying, "I know, right?" and "Exactly. Fuck that, right?" isn't helping me at all. And that's a "me" thing. I don't expect to change anyone's trajectory of anger and I certainly don't expect to change anyone's views. I'm just hoping that my first (and likely last) post here of my personal reflection may reach out to some lurker like me, who might realize they also agree. I know that change goes far beyond stepping outside of an echo chamber (the last time I'll use this buzz word), but it's a start, and it's something I should have done from the beginning. I do plan on being more involved in my community. I plan on raising my two children to be smart, wonderful, independent thinkers. I plan on simply being a good human being and practicing empathy for all people despite what I may initially perceive as shortcomings. If this election made me turn that corner, than I guess that's something.

  15. I can't say that's not true, but I can definitely say for a fact that the people I know in your city who are in radical groups are poor people's groups that include POC and are in solidarity and find property destruction and black bloc valid tactics.

"We are told by bourgeois pundits that racism, not ‘the economy’, mattered in this election. No such choice can be made. Unless we wish to reify ‘the economy,’ there is no way of talking about it except as an ensemble of social relationships structured by race, gender and class. The overdetermined nature of ideology means that it was possible for Trump to speak to polyglot class groups in the language of race and national chauvinism, ‘building the wall’ functioning as a metaphor for purification and protection against both global elites (subtly, and sometimes less subtly, coded with antisemitism by the Trump campaign) and the wretched of the earth. In the standard representation of right-wing populism, the losses incurred by these groups are interpreted as a national decline, inflicted by a collusion between the cosmopolitan rich and the de-nationalised poor.....In response to the liberals with whom we will march, who beg us to ‘overcome hate with love’, we must argue instead for more hate, to hate more, to hate harder – in the right direction."
