Seriously, it is okay to say white people have a privilege over others that unfair but saying they should die cause they are white is inherently racist.

Here in MO, I've seen plenty of trucks with both RIGHT TO WORK IS A RIPOFF and Trump bumper sticker on them. Hope you union dudes weren't too fond of your fancy union because that's going bye bye now.

Nope. Still fits racism by definition.

Definition: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

The journalist, Michael Bodley, is a friend of mine who graduated with me this past spring -- he is a good journalist who takes his job seriously. His other tweets show the same house has a mounted skull, and he rang their buzzer thirty times to no avail. Fuck everything about this.

EDIT: Apparently, the guy raised the flag satirical in protest of a Trump presidency. He won't reveal who he voted for 'out of principle, in order to avoid normalization of coercing people to vote' (paraphrasing), but he says it wasn't Trump. His neighbors are pissed, he says he's never flown it before and never will again. That said, fuck everything about this.

My favorite David Cross bit goes something like - "I'm not saying everyone who votes Republican is a racist....just the people they elect" or something like that.

God I just want to think about something else. Anything.

    Ew, David

As devastated as I am right now, I will say that I was really surprised by the result in my state (Mississippi). I knew Trump would win here of course, but he only won by an 18% margin and in my county particularly (one of the more conservative counties in MS) he only beat Hillary by 71 votes. I was expecting a much bigger gap tbh

  12. Good luck. I mean that sincerely. Let me know when there's stuff around I can read and find out more about. I am however, unconvinced that'll happen. The pull of polarization on the youth vote was very apparent last night.

For the first time in my life I am actually thinking the next 20 years are going to be worst than the previous for progressive policies, laws, and protections. The reflexive rejection of "PC" and "SJW" has just been given the country.

It looks like there are still at least 3 million votes left in California and over a million in Washington. If that is true her lead in the popular vote should continue to grow. Interested to see what it ends up as

I'm in love with the ordinary

I'm a Brit living here (Cali) since 2008. I'm here legally as a resident but not a citizen. Got a wife and kid here (both American born). I know this isn't "my" country but it sure as shit feels like I belong here, always has. I remember back in 2008 when Obama was elected, just that feeling of so many emotions coming over me. I remember crying because I was so proud of the voters of this country. I was fully expecting to feel the same way last night but all night, all I felt was dread, fear, sadness, disbelief. I've felt shitty all morning and will probably continue to do so for a while. Having to explain to my little 8 year old girl this morning how Tronald Dump won, while tears stream down her face was really fucking hard. I really don't have much to say about any of this, I just can't stop feeling numb! Still have no god damn clue how this happened!

I said it on Facebook and I'll say it here. I love you folks. I'm here for you. And I got your back, y'all got mine. Let's have some goddamn solidarity and make this the most miserable republican administration ever. I know, I know. I sound like a fucking broken record, but, as a walking target like so many of us are, this is all I can do to remain sane and with purpose.

  16. Impact on white people: potential hurt feelings.
Impact on people who actually experience racism: range from humiliation contributing to feelings of internalized hatred to death.

Please do not equate the two. It's a false equivalence even if the dictionary hasn't caught on yet. That's why we allow people to make frustrated quips about the group of people who just elected a predatory, racist, sexist fascist into the highest office in the land. Because that, unlike the quip in question, will have an actual, potentially catastrophic impact on their lives.

If that doesn't sound like the environment you'd like to be in, you have the option of removing yourself from the narrative. Unlike people of color, who are forced to live it every day of their lives.

Regardless, I don't care as a white dude if someone says white people need to die or whatever because getting bent out of shape about that is so laughably dumb. Like you do realize that white people voted a fascist in so they can uphold their white supremacy over minorities, right? Go suck a fuck if you don't like it, people can express their feelings of ire towards a harmful group of people if they want.

I'm gonna try staying away from political stuff and this thread for a while. This is my last post in here for a bit.

The whole election cycle over the past year/year and a half has completely changed my relationship with my family. This was the first election I really knew and was aware of what was going on. In 2012 I voted for Romney, not because I was educated on the issues and such, I wasn't. I voted for Romney because my dad is a hard republican and he thought it was the best move for the country. As an 18 year old who wanted to make his dad proud, I listened to him.

As I became older and started doing some real research, my views started to change. My dad and I became more and more different, but being his son, we're the same damn person. I can't express how rough and personal some of the arguments we had were. On the car ride to meet my baby cousin for the first time, literally the day she was born, my father and I got into a terrible argument about the state of the country, it got personal, and it was the first time I really let out a lot of my frustrations about him to his face. I had never seen my father get so angry. He was disgusted, my mom was trying to calm him down as I was sitting in the front seat in tears. It was important for our relationship, for a long time after that I never felt closer to my dad. Yesterday, my parents and I barely spoke. These are two people that I love dearly, and we barely said five words to each other because of the election. The only thing my mom said to me was "Here's breakfast, you got summoned for jury duty." I hadn't seen my parents today up until about ten minutes ago. Very few words, they know I'm upset. I told them my reasons why and my dad in very typical my dad fashion, just didn't get it to the point where I was actually disgusted. It wasn't even as complex as social issues, even though I don't think that stuff should be complex, it was simply this is how the votes turned out in terms of white voters to black voters. He just didn't understand. Back to square one with dad.

Ever since my brother had left for college for the first time nearly ten years ago we had been becoming closer. During this election cycle we've become even closer, we needed each other. He doesn't see my parents everyday like I do, but he sure knows my frustration. Neither of us slept last night. I went to bed by midnight, didn't sleep, and was up by 4. He went to bed at 2, was up at 4. We sat in the living room after my parents had left for work and just watched tv for hours before I took him to the train. It may just seem like a one time coincidence, but really we're actually the same person. The point I'm trying to prove is that even in this terrible thing that overall has hurt my relationship with my parents (mostly my dad), we became so much closer and I couldn't be happier about that. I told him that once I finish school in May and have a job locked up I'm outta here. He wants to look with me.

This wasn't the most well written thing and my dad just got pizza so I'm gonna stop now

  24. The country had a shot to say: no, we don't want this. We wholeheartedly say: no.

    We failed.
