If I could just forget it

I think the conversation could be a good one to have, but just not right now. Probably isn't pleasant for many people to read about at the moment.

California is a bad target. Going at that central-Atlantic area is actually interesting considering he has the dirty south and rural west locked up already. Pennsylvania and Ohio would make a lot more sense, but, hey, I'm no strategist.

Horaldo Rivera (?) has used the word "savage" four times in five minutes and is passionately endorsing "extreme" surveillance of Muslims.

Honestly, this is the most tempered response I could have ever expected to be honest, especially given the sheer volume of the tragedy. We're hearing crazy stuff from Republicans, but my Facebook feed (which I have, to be fair, cleansed of bigots) has been completely free of outright Islamophobia, and even the local news stories have been mostly tame.

there was an article on Cracked a few weeks ago that hypothesized that Trump is secretly working FOR Hillary to help get her in the White House. some things i remember from the article were that the Clinton's were at his wedding a few years ago and that every time Hillary seems to do / say something wrong, he says or does something worse almost immediately after to take the media away from her. it was a humorous and actually quite sound article.

I think of Rivera as more of straight up media whore than a self-loathing minority. I don't think there's any internalizations at play. Just a need for attention and a shallow conscience haha.

Allen West is the type of guy I think of as a self-loathing minority. Or Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby is probably the best example.

i know almost nothing of politics, so much so that if someone were to ask me if i was left or right wing i would have to google what each meant, but i really like how Cracked can out together some great, interesting articles that paint a clear, vivid picture of sometimes very messy / confusing topics for a simpleton like me.

Discovering your political self is a strange sort of fun. But you're absolutely right about Cracked. I rarely read, but your description sounds very apt from my experience.

I have the worst opinions on self-loathing minorities...especially when some of my family members make strides to cover up that they're Muslim and will go to lengths like supporting Trump. There's def worse, I'd put Cosby up there but even at smaller media levels like Michelle Malkin, drives me mad.

I get that Geraldo was raised mostly Jewish but come on....your mother would've been monitored if she grew up in 1930s Europe, you know that, yet you're totally cool with monitoring other minorities.

I was just explaining to my girlfriend how Reagan's policies on race and mental-health basically created 90% of the gun violence we see in America. Showed her the article, her mind was blown.

Haha dammit I should write for Cracked, I came up with this idea drunk back in February. I think it's not that uncommon of a theory tbh.

not sure if this is the best place for my question / thought since this isn't anywhere near my normal area of lurking and posting, but relating to the Orlando shooting, everything I've read (granted it's only about 7 articles) say the shooter applied and got the guns DAYS ago.

i thought the process was much longer than this, considering the background check and all. isn't that a bit fast and out of the ordinary?

***by the way that entire system is clearly messed up and since being on the FBI watchlist THREE times his name should have at least been flagged.

Oh, wow, that first part is incredibly, existentially sad. It's obviously a non-academic subject, so one that is always best understood and defined by ethnic minorities. So I don't have a very robust concept of the....concept. The lion's share of my cultural interaction and, thus, my conceptualization of it, has been with black persons. I actually often feel ashamed of how little I can relate or understand the perspectives of racial minorities who are not black or Latino. My ex-girlfriend's brother, who converted to Islam while in Cairo in 2009, married a woman whose family were Saddam-era Iraqi refugees and I went to his wedding and I felt so incredibly culture shocked.

Unrelated: I've been watching Fox News for about an hour. THIS just ran. He's running for governor of my state. This ad is not a joke.

For anyone interested in how the military industrial complex laid the foundation for gun culture in specific geographic locations, transforming the sociopolitical landscape in a way that gave rise to determinate political outcomes, interests and tensions that persist:
