On an institutional level, they're opposed to his program. He is a reformist and by that I mean he belongs to a very specific political category that aims at social transformation through the levers of established power. The democrats are not interested in reform in any way that is meaningful to workers, people of color, etc. They're a party whose primary function is maintenance of the status quo and the structures within the party reflect that; hence, the mechanisms by which they undermined his campaign from the outset. So, even if he has some influence, the actual capability of changing the party is hamstrung by its structural orientation.

I'm surprised he did it so soon after meeting with Bernie.

Also Bernie is meeting with Harry Reid today.

My guess is Obama probably wanted to talk to Sanders first and let him know he was going to be endorsing Hillary before he went public with it.

Not sure what the point of meeting with Reid is. Reid's retiring, and at this point I'm sure both men know what the other is about after working in the same chamber together for years.

"It may be that years down the road, we look back and see his campaign as the start of an increasingly vocal and influential left wing of the Democratic Party particularly dedicated to advancing large-scale, public sector solutions to problems.

But that requires some sort of momentum within the party that remains after the end of this campaign, and for this cause to be taken up by Democrats other than Sanders. It has to be adopted by some congressional Democrats and candidates in future elections to stay alive within the party — to pressure Democratic leaders to continue to advance those policies. I'm not terribly convinced that's going to happen, but that's what would need to happen.

There's a temptation to assume that everything new in politics is a harbinger of the future. But lots of things are dead ends: They rise, and they go away. There's no reason to believe just definitionally that Sanders represents the future of the Democratic Party more than anybody else."

Political scientist: Bernie isn't the future of the Democratic Party. Barack Obama is.

I don't think so....if it went to SCOTUS and was upheld, it seems it just means cities/states could ban concealed carry if they wanted to, which really doesn't do much IMO.

Yeah I mean, I agree with the ruling, but it's not really a big deal in terms of gun safety. The guns right activist nutjobs will have a conniption over it though, "ZOMG they're taking my gun!....'s ability to be carried under my jacket in public in any state or city that wants to!"

  20. Does Trump actually run his twitter or does he use staffers to just post things that sound like Trump wrote them?

I think he's said his staffers have access to it, but he often gets his phone out and tweets a lot, especially at night

I'm actually starting to wonder that. A quick look shows generally similar typing, but sometimes saying "Crooked Hillary" as opposed to "Crooked HIllary Clinton"

I also have always sorta assumed that any tweet any famous person or major politician makes is done by a staffer.
