So after several calls to my lost phone, somebody finally picked up!!!

The conversation was awkward but she lives nearby so I'll get it later tonight... kinda hoping she's cute.

@Dominick That's absolute bullshit. Your reaction is completely justified and I'm sorry your workplace continues to be such a vessel of frustration and negativity for you.

Also, and I know the conversation has moved on but I need to say this: what was described about past boyfriends threatening to kill themselves after a girl broke up with them is a very common abuse tactic. Please don't write those situations off as "crazy" or "not worth it".

My dad is the best. He had to re-new his CPR license at my hospital and afterwards he came to the lab and we talked in the hall for a little bit. He said don't take this the wrong way but I can tell you've been crying hard, what's up? I just told him how shitty today has been and then I went back to work. I just got home and there was an envelope in the mailbox with $40 bucks and a note from him that said some extremely sweet and encouraging things about me as a person and that this money could only be used for candy and junk food haha He keeps me trucking my way through this life no matter how hard it gets sometimes. I'm lucky as shit.

No, I don't. To contextualize it, he sent me a message essentially ordering me to purchase a part for him. I responded with a terse message, saying he needed to come back to the shop to essentially justify ordering a part worth twelve thousand dollars. About an hour or so later, I was sitting at my desk, which is faced away from the door, and he came up behind me and put his hands around my neck. I pushed him off of me and he started laughing, saying "don't talk to me that way. I'll mess you up. Haha." He was attempting to make it out as a joke, at which point I said what I'd told you folks. The problem is, despite my position, since I fired a couple of racists, they've limited my ability to do much of anything.

Thank you. It's not that I feel bad for my actions necessarily and more the hatred for this hyper macho persona that comes out when I get very angry. I hope that makes sense. Ha.

I got $30 in junk food and I don't plan on eating it all..but it's always a possibility that I might.

I got the more expensive stuff that I can never afford to buy. I'm and ice cream freak so I got 3 of those Ben and Jerry ones that have the cookie cores. Whoever the genius was that came up with that is my hero. I got those Magnum bars from the Rachel Bilson commercial. Moonpies, peanut clusters, those cheap caramel and cream candies that I love. Twix, a bunch of little debbie cakes, chocolate cupcakes, peanut butter M&M's, cream soda which I love but is so bad for you that I never get it and I think that's all.

I've never had them so I'm so excited! That's the 1st thing I will eat.

 

I'm at the point where I can't eat ice cream often. My teeth are awful from all of the soda I used to drink .

 

Magnum Ice Cream bars are straight up game changers in the ice cream on a stick game.

 

This guy in my workshop class is writing some real problematic mysoginist shit and I'm not sure if he's trolling. Thing is, the whole class (professor included) is too nice or feels too awkward to call him out on it. I mean, what's the appropriate response, whether he is trolling or otherwise? Keep in mind, this is a grad level poetry class.

 

I keep hearing 'problematic' used. A few people have used it, but I'm not sure I understand the context.

 

It speaks a lot about someone's character when they use misogyny to troll. @xkhiemster

 

I can't keep up with these threads.

 

Today I was talking with my boss about sports and he went into the time he played a little college basketball back in the day. He was telling me he wasn't great but one time off a missed shot he put it back with a huge dunk. He then said "You should have seen the face on all of the brothers in the gym." I didn't know how to react so I said "....what?" and he continued "The brothers. The brothers were all in shock." It made me super uncomfortable for an old white dude (im also white) to be talking like that. I didn't know what to say so I just walked off and we haven't talked for the rest of the day so far.

 

It means they carry certain views or perform actions, however small they might seem, that are harmful.

Like how my Aunt is a nice person and all, but she thinks black folks should just get over racism. Like that's gonna work...
