Yeah Jon would 100% have to be dead for that to work!

Shit, I think you guys are right. Forgot how faceswapping worked since they completely ditched it as a plot point this season!

Arya was my fav character so to hear that side of her story is forgotten in season 8 bums me out tbh. Her ending is nice though, and she literally saved the world so I cannot complain!

As an episode of TV, I thought it was pretty enjoyable. There were some cool shots, like when Dany was walking forward to speak and it looked real quick like she had dragon wings. As a finale to this series I thought it was very underwhelming and ultimately disappointing.

For most of this season I had really thought the biggest problem was rushing the story and not giving screentime to the types of scenes that made this show great all through it's run. I still think that is part of the problem, and more episodes and screentime would have made these storylines play out and land more successfully. But now that it is all said and done it really seems to me like Benioff & Weiss had no idea what to do with the plot points that GRRM gave them. I think they were very good at adapting the story when they had the books to go on, but not so much when they forged ahead and attempted to tell their own story yet were effectively "anchored" to certain big story points they had received from GRRM.

Things like Arya not really having much to do after killing The Night King yet always just being there hanging around, or Bran as the Three Eyed Raven felt very sloppy and half formed. And I ultimately despise the showrunners take on Daenarys' character and thought it was overly simplistic.

I agree with the common critique that she probably have been handled much better as a character if literally ANY women had been involved in the writing of her character, but also even male writers who didn't just view her as "mad" and "crazy" and "the bad guy" cuz of her last name would have gone a long way toward giving her the type of character the actress who played her and so many other people really thought she deserved. I think the biggest shortcoming regarding this show's legacy going forward is going to be that *these* writers were the ones in charge of storylines featuring powerful and empowered women that really struck a chord with audiences all over the world, and they either didn't recognize and realize that or they really just didn't care to.

Jon Snow having to kill Dany was bittersweet I suppose, but really otherwise all 4 of the Starks ended up in a nice place and almost got everything they wanted, Tyrion ended up in a nice place, Bron, Samwell - it was almost a comically happy ending for a lot of the main players, even if it was decidedly not for the still smouldering citizens of King's Landing.

And as a silly technical nitpick - Cersei and Jaime were very clearly crushed by a MASSIVE amount of debris falling onto them, not about five small bricks. The way their deaths were shown, it would have taken a long time to find their bodies even with modern equipment, nevermind just one guy with his hands. I understand the why of it dramatically, but it completely and utterly contradicted what we had just seen before.

But still...once Dany was dead wgaff about Greyworm and any authority he has - especially in front of all of those leaders of the realm. Someone drop kick his ass and free the others to figure out what needs to be done and let the foreigner take a hike.

It did seem kind of silly, but I get why Bran felt the need to do it. And it's not as said as it could've been, given that there really doesn't seem to be much of a Night's Watch now, and Jon gets to go off with Ghost the wildlings, and that's where he always seemed to be happiest.
You are correct. I'm kind of bummed they just kind of abandoned that whole concept once she killed the Freys, but maybe Martin will do more with it in the book.

Jaqen used faces of the living, right? Didn’t they kind of drop that rule for the show? Not that it mattered in the end of course.

One missing character I wish we could have seen: Meera. Even if we didn't get her reaction to Bran being the King of the 6 Kingdoms, having her there for the coronation of Sansa would have been nice. But I really would have liked to have her during the war for the dawn or, at least, at the end to say hi to Bran lol

Good point, the council scene with Tyrion/Davos/Bronn/Brienne is the closest we get to the feeling of warmth that comes with recognizing everything we went through was for a communal purpose, that lives are built on relationships more than status

I dunno but I would have loved for him to reveal himself to be the horse that saved Aria and also show him trying to Warg into Drogon when he said "I'll find him". So many wasted opportunities!

I’m so glad John killed Dany. She was going to end up being another tyrant. She let the power get to her head and she needed to be killed or else she would have ended up killing a lot more innocent people.

I'm glad he wasn't the horse, especially since it lead to nothing in the finale, and I think him just hinting at trying to find it is better than whatever visual they'd pull out of their ass, haha

With him not being the horse though, it made that 5 minute scene of her and the horse super pointless and random. The point about the Dragon is fair though.

Wanting the horse to have plot significance is a misreading of how visual storytelling works. It was maybe the best part of that episode.

I couldn't figure out how to say this, but yeah. That was a great part of that episode but that was always just a horse that randomly survived the chaos of battle.

I saw an INCREDIBLY detailed post about how symbolic the horse was and how it was the soul of the little girl reincarnated into the “celestial being” of the horse and how that tale was one of the most beautiful and meaningful side plots in the whole show and I just could not believe my eyes. Truly one of the funniest and most grasping at straws theories I’ve ever read about the show.

It looked beautiful and was shot well....but it was sitting there glowing and she walked up all slow and spent so much time rubbing it down.... For it to just be random was a super weird choice in the last few hours of the entire show when they could show literally anything else. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i dont think the horse needed to do anything and never even had the thought of "where is the horse" but saying anyone who did expect that has a misunderstanding of anything is a stretch

Usually in movies, something is only shown that will have relevance to the story down the road unless your movie just has random stuff pop in and out like Napoleon Dynamite.

The Thin Red Line was cool, but hit me up when he makes a classic like Face/Off.
