I always kind of thought that the last two books were either gonna just randomly off a bunch of characters or never close storylines because even with 2,500(ish) pages to go, GRRM has more to wrap up then the show and I honestly don’t think he can do most of it in a satisfying manner

That loneliness is not a function of solitude.

George RR Martin finishing the GoT books and Patrick Rothfuss finishing up Kingkiller Chronicle are my two biggest book wishes. One seems much more likely than the other...

  9. Really hope the final episode has some awesome music attached to it.

I feel like the last two seasons have been really great on that front (could say the same for all of them really)

Willing to bet stoneheart gets knocked out p quick and jaimes pseudo trial in winterfell is similar to how that storyline plays out

Just reading through this thread because I finished episode 5 tonight. I feel that Dany did have a bitterness for the people. Her father was killed, her family was exiled, and she had been hunted by the crown. She hated those people, and their entitlement. She related more to groups who were struggled and oppressed. The choice to burn the city down may have not been premeditated, but unlike Tyrion, she had not affections for the city/and citizens. Her father was called the Mad King by those people. In feeling defeated, she chose to defeat. Most characters on GoT fail to meet our expectations, because they are meant to be flawed. It the same reason why Jon failed to kill the Night King, Tyrion failed to save the city, Arya failed to save a life and can only take them, Cersei failed to rule, Jamie failed to overcome his addiction to his sister, Grey Worm failed at becoming more human, Sansa failed at keeping her family loyalty and on and on.

It’s really just a matter of who can survive and navigate through their mistakes.

No matter how many times i watch, Sandor asking Arya if she wants to be like him, then putting his hand on the back of her head/neck and choking back some emotion as he tells her she'll die if she comes with him, is so heartbreaking. Especially since it works and he gets through to her and then she thanks him and almost inches forward to go after him as he walks away.

I still think it would have been more epic if the Night King had gone to Kings Landing and actually sat on the throne. Imagine the big battle that could have happened instead of the one we got last episode. The battle at Winterfell could have just been a distraction whilst he flew to Kings Landing with most of his army accompanying him.

This is a thread of choices I mostly can’t make. Some are easier than others though.

I don’t know if I can take any of those questions seriously when they have The Waif stabbing Arya as a choice for “best fight”.

Yeah that entire tweet was a pretty bad choice...there’s so many good one on ones in this show and they missed a lot of them. Not having Ned/Jaime was a big miss

The look of surprise/possible doubt on Jaime’s face when he realizes Ned is better than he expected him to be is great.

They’re not considered nearly as close in skill in the books but I do think that is partly because the country for some reason underrates Ned as a swordsman, probably because he never leaves the North or fights in tournys. You would think rumors of him defeating Arthur Dayne would have inflated his legend as a swordsman but apparently not.

So in the books Jamie is considered the better swordsman yes?

I agree with all of that, I just don’t think that bitterness was really addressed enough this season is all. There was probably a part of her that secretly wanted the people of that specific city to burn the whole time which is why she never showed that inclination towards the people of Essos or anywhere else. It just didn’t fully present itself until she was in the moment.

But on the other hand, she also had every reason to burn it down from a tactical standpoint. They just didn’t SHOW us any of that bitterness towards the common people, at least enough for it to land properly. As my post states, I loved the decision but they could have addressed her resentment for the non-supporters a little more this season and then it wouldn’t have seemed quite so “out of nowhere” for so many people.

Jaimes probably the best swordsman in the books period

Yeah Jaime has a reputation of being one of the best swordsman alive, possibly the best (though many would argue Barristan, Mountain, Hound, and a few others could take him)...Ned has more of a reputation of being a good war strategist and such, not as much for his fighting ability.
