Davos also famously mentioned in an episode that he likes to walk the night before a battle to clear his head and shit where no one can hear him away from camp

    yeah good okay Prestigious

the scene with Varys and Tyrion talking is the type of scene that makes this show great

I feel like the adult film version would include more clothing and less copulation than the actual show.

Ugh poor Rhaegal again. The way he looks back at Dany and Drogon after the first arrow hits is heartbreaking

Loved that scene, except for when Varys is the one to mention that having a cock is pretty important or whatever the line was. I mean, he's not wrong, and Varys is nothing if not a realist, but it felt a little odd coming from him of all people. Especially considering how long he's been following Dany's journey from afar. I know he wasn't necessarily backing her specifically, but he was plotting with Illyrio to bring the Targs back to Westeros to disrupt the status quo.

More so than that, though, it just seemed like the wrong time for that sentiment to be brought up. We're so close to the end, and a massive part of what appealed to me about this story when I first started reading the books is this notion that in a world that is especially cruel to women, the set up seemed to be for a handful of women (Arya, Sansa, Dany, Brienne, Cersei to an extent) to subvert what society expects of them. I don't know if it would have felt more natural for Tyrion to make that sort of comment to Varys, but just struck me as off because of the timing of the comment and who was saying it. Like, we've got two episodes left where two queens are battling for the throne, Arya killed the Night King, and Brienne commanded part of the army.

  6. Going to be very sad if/when (definitely when at this point) Varys dies. He’s been one of my favorite characters

Those lines where they go back and forth about it were atrocious.

  8. I do wonder if we’ll ever find out what exactly Varys heard in the flames.

Davos is so blunt. That line was something else. I was specifically remembering the SOMEONE ELSE factor of what Tormund said though. Such a specific gag there.

Same here. I have a sinking suspicion he may go next episode, presumably after Dany discovers his shifting allegiance.

But, like, Varys and Tyrion aren’t wrong that the lords would be more accepting of a man. It’s not they they personally would prefer a man, or that they think a male ruler is more better objectively, they’re just being realistic about it.

They can be realistic about it without resorting to the same terrible dialogue that’s been done to death in like six scenes, with countless more if we include just the eunuch jokes by themselves.

I think I audibly said, "Oh, give me a break" when it got to that point. Only downside to what was otherwise a pretty flawless scene. It's one thing to bring that up if/when the entire realm knows about Jon's claim, but they don't yet, and Varys is essentially talking about using the fact that Jon is a man to help bring the common folk to his cause over Dany's claim if it were to get to that point.

I get that Varys's m.o. has never been about a specific gender sitting on the throne and more who would be the best ruler. And I can't disagree at this moment that I think Jon would be a better ruler than Dany or Cersei, but just the way it came about and how close to the end we are was a really big bummer to me.

Yeah Varys is definitely saying that having a cock matters because as a male heir it makes Jon more legitimate in the eyes of most of the country, and specifically the high lords and ladies. Westerosi law honors make heirs before female ones except in Dorne, iirc.

That’s how Varys and Tyrion talk to each other lol it’s been like that since the beginning of the series.

Yeah, honestly, I'm not upset about them having the conversation. If you know that there is another male out there with a very strong claim, I get that it's going to come up in the conversation when discussing those things. That's the reality of the world they're living in. But it felt as if Varys was leaning more into this notion of, "Well, Jon is a man, so we can use that specifically to win people to his side." Again, he's not wrong, but just felt like the wrong character and the wrong timing in relation to how close we are to the end. And yeah, if the conversation had fewer mentions of cocks in it, it probably wouldn't have felt like such a slap in the face to what I have always interpreted as a larger picture trait of George's story (which, admittedly, D&D may not even personally acknowledge)

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

Rewatching the episode for the first time and just noticed that during the scene between Sansa and The Hound you can clearly see Pod in the background picking up two girls and walking away with them haha.

People are seriously offended by Tyrion and Varys’s conversation? They were ruefully acknowledging a pragmatic truth, which both seemed to realize was fundamentally unjust. It’s not like they were making dick jokes and high fiving each other to own the libs. Jfc

I’m sure this has already been discussed but I’m ok with them not showing the reactions of Arya and Sansa when Jon tells them, we know what they’re going to be and it’s more important what they do with the information.

It seemed weirder to me that they didn’t show Missandei being captured. Also I hope next episode Dany figures out that she can just...fly behind the ships to avoid the crossbows.

Not offended, it’s just one of the worst things they do in the dialogue and it’s so so played out. The conversation was good besides that part. It was the same when Jaime and Bronn did it almost word for word a season or two ago.

This is super random, but apparently that unnamed soldier that’s been in tons of episodes wasn’t the wight like everyone thought because he’s in the background in 4 again. Maybe he’s the one true king?
