I absolutely understand that. Just the audience is obviously going to be bringing their moral mindset when their viewing it and I thought it was an interesting choice and feel a bit odd about it. Especially with it being such a big cultural phenomena.

Currently it's not like they know. But if they do find out, is it going to be like a "That doesn't matter, I love you anyway" *embrace kiss* and the aunt and nephew live happily ever after.

Yeah, the Jon/Dany scene is such an interesting choice to play the audience against themselves. Because, within the story, they don't know they're related. But most of the audience had figured it out by now. So, the scene was written almost for the people who couldn't connect a few obvious dots and were still rooting for Jon and Dany. Like, I imagine people who missed the reveals and shipped them were losing their shit and could provide a very different perspective to that scene than most of us who were like "oh no what are you doing" despite it making sense for the characters.

Like, there was zero dread (for lack of a better word) written into that scene for people who had pieced it together. I had no, "Stop!" reaction that I should've had for a character I love as much as Jon. I just immediately went to "oh, they're doing this."

They both have strengths and weaknesses. Some of the same strengths and weaknesses, some different ones. But the idea that GRRM is some paragon of brilliant literature and the show is the Walking Dead level of mindless entertainment just rings false to me. I've read GRRM's sex scenes. I've read along as he disrupted any narrative flow to introduce seven new people I've never heard of and don't give a shit about whose impact on the central narrative is minimal or won't be felt for literal years. The books have more room to flesh stuff out and I think GRRM understands the world better than the show, obviously, as it's his creation, which is partly why I think it's generally agreed upon that the the "capture a wight and bring it to Cersei" plan was a plot devised by the TV people and likely won't be a part of the books, it very much streamlines things and moves important pieces quickly while the books have more room to do something more organic. Still, I'm not sure his unfiltered vision is a hill to die on.

I fucking long for the day when we get a good action RPG game based in Westeros.

And yes I know of the PS3/360 one but I'm trying to purge those memories

and the show and books have consistently contextualized incest as weird and wrong and conflicting, attributed as a reason for the Targaryen downfall and used to attack Jamie and Cersei and incest was a main part of the characterization of a horrifyingly disgusting man in Craster. The series, the show in particular, really hammers home that incest isn't a good thing... because incest isn't a good thing.

Don't get me wrong, part of me was happy for Jon, because it's been so long since he's had any semblance of a personal life or personal happiness. It's just been duty and despair for seven or so years, including his relationship with Ygritte.

Yeah. From what we know of Jon and Dany, the instant they know, they'll be like "we shouldn't do that."

I agree with what a lot of you guys are saying.

The pros and cons are certainly there for the tv show and the book. More nuanced writing, but at the cost of just an absurd amount of useless writing.

The TV show being a good adaptation that cut a lot of useless stuff out, along with some cool stuff, and sort of put it on fast forward. Made it digestible for the general public. I do really enjoy both the show and the book for different reasons.

TWD isn't garbage, I guess my only issue is that after watching this golden era of TV with Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and then seeing a very predictable very soapy and sort of stuck at times show can get annoying. I watched every episode live up until the bat swinging #whowasit fakeout. It certainly has its moments.

This season I liked better than Season 5. It may be tied with 6, not totally sure. It cut a lot out, had some really exciting moments, the dialogue was was modern and overdone at times with cock, pussy, and just the very direct way they all spoke to each other it was a bit jarring compared to the old nuance dialogue of the older season.

David and Dan are great at big set pieces and huge plot moments, but on their own struggle with the inter-workings, something GRRM is great at but also over does sometimes.

There are BIG rumors about a Bethesda Game of Thrones open world RPG coming in the next year or so.

Multiple sources including a Target listing

  12. I do think, regardless of the actual quality of the books, that not having them and/or only having a rough(er by the episode, probably) outline from GRRM is a much harder position to 'adapt' from.

I agree. I REALLY enjoyed Seasons 1-4. I think having the source material written all out and David and Dan being able to pick and choose and adapt is the best. Not them going off a very bare bones outline.

They've done that about brother-sister for sure. But people in that world don't usually look at things like cousins, nieces/nephews, etc, as "incest". That's actually seen as pretty normal, both in that world and formerly in ours.

I believe Tywin Lannister was married to his first cousin.

I just did a family tree search on House Stark out of curiosity, and it looks like Rickard Stark and his wife were also related. They had the same grandparents which I believe makes them 1st cousins?

With the the war over the throne between the living still fully unresolved, and arguably even more up in the air than even after the end of last season, next season has to be completely jam packed. Is it just seven episodes as well?

The talking point from everyone has been that it'll be 6 episodes, but there are rumors that they'll all be 90 minutes long. I assume that's unlikely, but you gotta think they'll all be longer than 60 minutes

To be fair, most royal families were somehow related at one point. If one looks at photos of Czar Nicholas II of Russia and King George V of England, they look like twins. There was a lot of inbreeding, in order to keep the line pure.

    6. I really wish we could have just gotten 10 and 10 and have them slow it down just a tad is the budget really too much?

I'm worried we are going to have to wait until 2019.

Also, with the book names...A Dream of Spring sounds like it would entirely be an Epilogue of sorts.

Is the show actually going to have the White Walker battle in Episode 4? with the remaining episodes over the resolution and battle for the seven kingdoms?

Or is it going to just end right after the white walkers are defeated.

    music and baseball.

I am not a fan of Jamie leaving or Theon's recovery over cowardice. Ever since they got away from GRRM, decisions seem to have less repercussions and lots more redemptions.
