May all the gods in the realm help the poor sap who might end up being Cersei's chosen suitor next season.

Edit - Then again, now that I think about it, if someone is as good as her or better at playing the game, that might be a good opportunity for an ambitious character known or unknown to fuck her world up. Hmmm...

I've read similar gripes about her death online, but I was really disappointed that Margaery/Dormer was never allowed to have a breakout season like it seemed that she might and show off her acting chops. Given the arc of her character, it seemed like she was primed to become a focal point protagonist this season.

At the very least, hopefully Dormer gets more roles now. That girl has screen presence for days.

I thought for sure her arc this season was to somehow overthrow the High Sparrow, maybe that was her intention, but we'll never know.

    reaalllly loved this episode.
    few complaints/questions, though:
wish Cersei had shown some more visible emotion at losing Tommyboy due directly to her own actions.
why didn't the Sparrows allow anyone watching the trial to leave? it's not like they were required to be there.
what happened to the rest of the Karstarka and Umbers?
did Arya need a different face? no one at the Frey household would be likely to recognize her. also, that was the same face that served Jaime, do we think that was Arya, too? or did she steal her face later on?

I assume that was Arya from the beginning and she was initially trying to lure Jamie. I assume she was just being careful and/or it was for our sake more than anything.

    Agreed.

Maegarey was the only one trying to get the house to bail, and I'm not sure how much clout she, a sinner, had.

I assume they were dealt with similarly.

Probably not, but the reveal was too great to pass up. And no, I didn't feel that was Arya yet.

This might be an already answered question, but how long as it been since S1E1 with the start of Ned's "Winter is coming" and now Winter has finally arrived? I'm pretty sure it's not a normal 365 day cycle.

    From wiki:

Westeros's climate shifts from a subarctic wasteland in the furthest north, beyond the Wall, to a desert climate in the furthest south, along the peninsula of Dorne. In the normal course of events, the furthest north still has light snowfalls even in the longest summers while Dorne almost never sees snow, even in the most severe winters.

Westeros and Essos both experience seasons of varying length, usually lasting at least a couple of years each. The length of the seasons is completely unpredictable and varies randomly. The maesters of the Citadel keep a close eye on the length of the days in order to try to predict how long the current season will last, but this is an inexact science at best.

At the time the series opens, the world has been experiencing a summer that has lasted for nine years, which is unusually long, and the maestersfear that an equally long winter will follow. Westeros extends much further north than Essos, so is much more adversely affected by long winters, while Essos, which extends into equatorial regions, is typically warmer.

In the North, the winters are extremely cruel. Lords set aside non-perishable food items for storage against the next winter, while many of the North's most notable strongholds are built in favorable areas, such as Winterfell on hot springs or the Dreadfort of House Bolton on volcanic vents. Some castles, like Winterfell, have elaborate greenhouses which permit the growing of vegetables even in the harshest winters. Despite these precautions, famine and starvation is common during Northern winters, and is one of the reasons the North has a small population despite its vast size.

There is a suggestion that the long seasons are not natural in origin, but may have stemmed from a near-mythical event called the Long Night 8,000 years ago, when it is said that the White Walkers used the cover of a winter that lasted a generation and a night that lasted for years to invade Westeros. They were defeated in the War for the Dawn, thrown back into the furthest north and prevented from returning by the raising of the Wall, but the seasons never recovered. Maesters are highly skeptical of this story, dismissing it as folklore, despite the inarguable presence of the Wall.

  12. Right. And its not like the Martells are big on monogamy anyway. I'm sure to them Rhaegar's behavior wasn't that detestable. Its always been said that he treated Elia very well, right?

Lancel knows a lot about the underground workings of KL from all of his time spent with Cersei. He's probably seen the "little birds" before and has probably even been in the room when Varys/Cersei spoke of them. I'm sure Lancel knew that they were still working for Cersei or someone loyal to her, and their skittish presence around the Sept piqued his interest.

I could see her marrying a Tyrell. Didn't we hear somewhere that the Tyrell sons would have a greater presence in the final seasons? And now that Olenna's lost her granddaughter as queen, it would make sense for her to try to align one of her remaining heirs as closely as possible with the new regime.

I assumed the opposite. My take was that we originally saw the girl there serving Jaime, as herself, which worked as a means to establish a familiar face in that setting. Arya then killed her, took her face, and used it as a disguise to get close to Walder. I mean, if Arya walked in wearing a face he didn't recognize then that could've screwed up her whole plan.

    The Real Azor Ahai

One of the reasons why I think they wouldn't let them leave was because Margaery was trying to take Loras with her

I have a feeling Dany will get a "reality check" or sorts when entering King's Landing. She isn't the most mentally sharp person in Essos, and not even close to being as sharp as some of the higher ups in Westeros. She thinks that her dragons and her Blood Riders will solidify her a spot, but she has to have wits about her as well. Maybe Tyrion will be that side of her, but she's going to have a HUGE target on her back.

One thing that still isn't very clear to me, was th exchange Jon and Sansa had about the impending winter. They said something along the lines of it was what Ned promised, and then thy both gave a big grin.

Didn't Walder make a comment to Masked Arya about her being new? As in the girl hadn't been there very long. That's at least promising in that Arya didn't murder some random girl just so she could murder Walder. ... It I guess maybe she did because she needed the face from somewhere.
