Recently I was able to connect with New York City indie rock band, Gamblers, to discuss everything that went into the writing process for their new single called ”Agita.” I also asked them about the aesthetic behind their music video for the track and what they hope their fans will feel when listening to the new single. Gamblers’ latest LP, Pulverizer, is out now wherever you stream your music.

Can you describe the songwriting process for “Agita”?

It was somewhat towards the middle of the writing process of our album Pulverizer. We came up with these punky chord progressions and just ran with it. Showing a bit of a heavier side of us than we had shown previously. The lyrics touch on the dangers of falling into a pit of comfort.

How did you decide on the visual style and aesthetic for the video?

We wanted to kind of do a take on where we are from, but with the volume turned up a bit. The idea being that with the suburbs, there’s always more lingering beneath the surface. The tribute to Italian-American films/TV is pretty apparent, and was something we hadn’t done before.

What are you hoping fans take from the track? Are there any personal experiences or stories behind the song?

The song features a lot of my (Michael) Mom’s side of the family. It was nice to be able to pay tribute to her a bit by having them involved, though it was bittersweet because she couldn’t be there. There’s pictures and a dedication to her at the end of the video. We hope fans enjoy seeing a bit more of a personal side of us with this one.
