Ah sorry just seeing this, it wouldn't be vigor, its really up to two stats, STR or DEX. STR are usually heavier, slower, hard hitting weapons. Dex are the faster moving lighter hitting weapons. I think STR builds are beginner friendly. I usually go STR still.

I could try to explain but i'm sure this link will do a way better job.

Like I said, scaling is extremely important in these games, it makes your life easier.

Player's Log: Tombsward Edition. All Tombsward, all the time.

First thing I did tonight was go back to Roundtable Hold. I'm now +5 on my Bloody sword, and I decided to also invest in a couple of meager incantations, although I was disappointed to learn afterward that using them would require an item that I couldn't use because my Faith was too low.

So after I upped Vigor to 40, I also decided to invest in bringing Faith up 1 level, just so I could use that item. From there I'll pivot to Dexterity, cause I'd like to be able to use a bow at some point in my life.

Anyway, as for progress, I crushed the Tombsward Catacombs, brought down the walking mausoleum, completed the Tombsward Ruins, found the Fourth Church of Marika, and now I'm in Tombsward Cave, which is where I'll stop for the night.

One thing I attempted and failed at was beating the Erdtree Avatar. I got him down a little under half health, and by that time he's destroyed me. Eventually I just gave up; I'll try again another time when I'm stronger.

One sore point with me is still not being able to level my Spirits. I think if I could do that, it would help me tremendously, but unfortunately I'll need to do some digging in Stormveil Castle for that, and I'm not quite ready to go back there yet.

I plan to just keep hitting up points of interest along the Weeping Peninsula heading west, and then eventually circle back around to Castle Morne. Once I've exhausted the Peninsula, then I guess I'll have no choice but to go back to Stormveil, but until then!

There’s some dialogue in the hold of some characters you have to exhaust to get spirit upgrades unlocked fyi

Don't I have to get an item from Stormveil Castle to give to that one woman in the Shack? I think I get that item and then she'll appear in the Hold, and then I can start a convo between her and the blacksmith that unlocks her ability. Right?

personally, after i got that item Roderika needed she actually left from the Stormhill Shack and went straight to the Roundtable without me needing to give it to her.

and apart from Roderika, i don't think there's a single sidequest i haven't managed to fuck up at this point, lol
wish it were a bit easier to keep track of them, i absolutely canNOT remember whom i've spoken to and what they needed (i haven't been using a walkthrough at all)

Player's Log: I'm continuing to traverse Weeping Peninsula, rooting out evil and the like.

I'm not going to go over everything I've done, but let's just say my interactive map is starting to look awfully empty in this region. I'm now in the Morne Tunnel, after which I'll tackle Earthbore Cave, and that will just about do it for the optional dungeons in this region except for Castle Morne.

I might at that point, if I'm feeling spicy, go back and retackle the previous things that gave me trouble, like the Erdtree Avatar and the Fringefolk Hero's Grave before I go back to Stormveil.

Oh, and remember that Night's Cavalry that gave me trouble before? He's not troubling me now. My horse disappeared from under me inexplicably a few times and gave me a heart attack, but I still got my revenge.

It's occurred to me that I've dumped 48 hours so far into this game and I'm not even finished with the first area yet. On the one hand, that's awesome. On the other hand, I dunno when I'll ever play another game again at this rate.

That said, I've been trying to up my playtime from just weekends, so that I can actually make some real progress.

I am stuck on Commander Niall fight, what a load of fucking bullshit; Every attack he does either staggers you or floors you with it's giant hitbox or whatever. Might dip out and try some of those hero's grave type dungeons as have not done one yet - is that the only place those giant chariot things are located? Have not seen one at all so far.

I followed a guide for those dungeons and found out you can jump onto those chariots at a certain point and ride them down. Still gave me hours of grief but I eventually did it

Beat commander Niall thank god, so lucky I checked a wiki & discovered there is an item that is found in exactly two places in the entire game that comes in very handy for this boss fight. S/o to the "bewitching branch"

Player's Log: "Beware of down." I wonder what that mea...(falls in a hole)

So after finishing Morne Tunnel, I went to Earthborn Cave, where the above anecdote took place. Finished that too.

I also, after multiple frustrating attempts, beat the Erdtree Avatar. I did it on horseback, as it seemed to be the best way. I even leapt off my horse at the end to give the final blow, which was very cinematic and satisfying, except I didn't do it on purpose, which is concerning.

This has been happening lately where I'll suddenly lose my horse. I don't know if I'm jumping off my horse or what's happening. It's not to do with damage, that I'm certain. It feels like I'm trying to attack while on the horse and the game just assumes I want to get off and fight on foot, which I don't.

Anyway, now the only things left I've got in Weeping Peninsula are Castle Morne, the Weeping Evergaol, and the Weeping Peninsula Deathbird. I tried the latter and it crushed me, but then again, I was on foot, so I might go back on horse and try again. The Evergaol, I'm not sure if I'm ready for that, but I might give it a shot. I've a feeling Morne is going to be my next destination though.

I'm trying something new, equipment-wise. First, I forgot to mention yesterday that I bought a lantern. Super fucking useful, so glad I have it now. I also finally got enough dexterity to wield that Uchigatana, so I'm giving that a whirl. I upped the Uchigatana to +3. I also had been using the Beast Crest Heater Shield, but now I'm using a Brass Shield, as I'd heard it's a better option.

This is my dilemma. My previous sword has the Ash of War Bloody Slash on it, whereas the Uchigatana does not, it has that Unsheathe thing. I'm gonna be honest, I'm not sure I'm finding that Unsheathe all that useful to me, but the sword itself is good. I'd like to put the Bloody Slash on it, but if I do, that will remove Unsheathe, and it also looks like it significantly decreases the stats of the sword. So I don't know if I should do anything at all. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Player's Log: I've discovered why I jump off my horse, and apparently it's because the crouch button is tied to the movement stick, and when I'm in the heat of battle, I might inadvertently press it and cause something not good to happen.

I tried looking at the issue to see if there was a way to remedy the matter, but all the other buttons on my controller are in use and in a way that I prefer, so I guess I'm stuck with it.

Anyway, I rode my horse to the Deathbird as promised, and I did not jump off my horse. I also killed the Deathbird. Funny enough, toward the end I accidentally switched to my incantation for Fire instead of my sword, but it was super effective, so I'm not even mad.

I did decide to put Bloody Slash on my Uchigatana, which seems to be working wonders, not so much for the move, but because of the Bleed effect. I guess the Bleed mitigates whatever stat drop the sword takes, so I'm fine with it. Plus I actually have the Unsheathe Ash of War, so if I ever want to reverse what I've done, I can.

I tried to go to the Evergaol, but I don't have a Stonesword Key at the moment, so there was really only one thing left to do in Weeping Peninsula, so I went to Castle Morne.

I beat the crap out of Leonine Misbegotten. He was actually way easier than I expected, although it might just be because I've been so diligent in exploring and raising my stats. I also saw the aftermath with Edgar, and now he's gone all Liam Neeson on me. Poor guy.

I raised my Dexterity enough to equip a bow, and I made myself some arrows, so I've got that going for me. Haven't had a use for it yet, but it's nice to have the option. Now I'm raising Strength, but I might pass Strength and Dexterity back and forth for a while until I feel satisfied.

Now, I know where to find a Stonesword Key, so next time I'll grab that and try out the Evergaol. That aside, I think my only choice is to try to finish whatever last bits I left behind in Limgrave. I'm stronger now, so maybe I'll do better against those couple optional bosses that were giving me trouble.

And once I've done that, I should be ready for Stormveil, right?

    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...Right? (fear intensifies)

Getting my ass fucking kicked by everything in ER now, gave up on Consecrated Snowfield after dying to Astel Heart Of Darkness 10x, his attacks take 50%+ of my HP if they connect and that is with 50 vigor and talismans that are adding an extra 200hp, plus his 1 or 2 attacks that are guaranteed 1-shots, great boss

I Thought lesson learned, will try & level up a few more times and come back; gone to Subterranean Shunning Grounds instead and still taking a beating lol. If I am noticeably struggling now then what is fighting Malenia going to be like :verysad:
