Frank doesn't come close to Brian for me

I’ve been just trying hard to warm up to this album. I really just don’t need Common Ground, Lifeboat, or Get It Right to end it.

I also feel like Be More Kind is the best closer on this? Obviously Get It Right’s 1:30 of da da’s could only fit at the ending, but I would argue scrap that song in general.

I also think the title track should have been the closer.

I need to spend more time with this but agree "Be More Kind" would have made the best closer.

I recently got my sister into that song, and she's someone who hasn't made the time to listen to hardly any new music in like a decade. Hopefully it'll be a gateway to get her into Frank Turner and some other newer stuff.

I don't know why we are comparing the two, but Frank over Brian any day

Brian has at least six records I would rank above anything Frank has ever released.

To be fair, it’s hard to compare anyone to Brian Fallon. His 8 album stretch is damn impressive. And all in nearly within a decade.

Frank would be my second favorite songwriter and I would say his 8 albums are ccomparable, but Brian Fallon’s music has shaped my life more than Frank. I love both dearly.

I love one Frank album, compared to 7 for Brian

I like Brian, but there is a huge problem of sounds-the-same with him, he just doesn't quite have the ability to diversify his sound that well. It's a good sound, but for the most part you know what you're in for with his music.

I think this is true for Frank too. I do much prefer Frank's music though.

This was exactly how I felt, album goes downhill after track 10.

I love Frank. I think everyone here does. My original point was that Fallon, who is my all-time favorite, writes and records COMPLETE and FANTASTIC albums every time. Think Frank, who is also incredible, does not.

One thing they have in common, they both leave some great songs on the shelf as B-Sides.

honestly apart from LI&S which I think is one of the most consistently great albums I've ever listened to, I'd agree that all of his albums have some duds on them.

I don't really like any Fallon album.

I did a discog listen last week and I think Positive Songs is the only front to back great album of his

England Keep My Bones and Love Ire are close but have just 2-3ish songs I don't care for

the "sounds-the-same" argument for Brian is something i cannot wrap my head around. within records or eras, sure, but across his body of work i genuinely cannot understand that notion. listen to We're Getting a Divorce and then Here Comes My Man and then I Believe Jesus Brought Us Together. i also don't think it's true of Frank.

I wouldn't include Sink or Swim stuff tbh, that's the only album that is vastly different (in a negative way in my opinion). "Here Comes My Man" is kinda the epitome of what I am talking about though, I truly think that song could fit on almost any album from 59 Sound through the new one and it wouldn't really stand out as surprising.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Here Comes My Man would stick out like a sore thumb on any other album besides maybe Get Hurt. And even then that's a stretch.

So "great expectations" could fit on the same album as "Etta James"... No

I find Fallon's solo albums to be hit and miss track wise. Frank meanwhile has 4 amazing solo albums (LI&S, EKMB, TDH and PSFNP).

TGA is level with Frank for me though.

That's fair, also the more time you spend with something the more nuanced changes you hear.
