this is fine. not really bad but nothing that really makes me want to listen again. They've just lost all of the fun energy that made them exciting.

Last Chance At Love came on after this finished and made this seem even worse lol.

I’m of the mind that the only thing holding this record and Burn back is the production, but to me that barely matters. A lot of these songs are as good or even better than songs on self-titled or Church IMO. Burn and THBY are easily better than Church even though that record has higher highs. Self-Titled and Gonzo are untouchable for me.

Idk, I don't think these songs are that good regardless of production. Like I said "Last Chance At Love" wipes the floor with all of them and that song might not even crack my top 5 on Church. I'd say these songs are about on par with the weakest stuff on that album. The closer was the only one that really stood out to me and even then they've done a lot better.

The lyrics have taken a nosedive on the most recent two albums as well. I listened to this album once and probably won't again.

  6. 100% agree about lyrics on the recent material.

Still, there are a short album's worth of rotation-worthy tracks for me between Gonzo, Burn, and The Heart Behead You. I'm pretty happy with the 5ish newer tracks I saw on the setlist, and I'm not mad they've skipped Gonzo entirely haha

I've never managed to see them live in 12ish years listening, so I'm curious if my approach to them will change at all once I finally cross them off my list. I really couldn't be more excited B-)

Gonzo is one of my all time favorite albums, and I was lucky enough to see them when they performed it in full. But the rest of their catalog really shines live in a way Gonzo does not, the new stuff looks awesome live too if videos from the show are any indication.

Anyone who has not caught Foxy live, please do whatever you can to catch them on this tour. Absolutely life changing show.

Burn and the new album both give me huge "this would sound so good live" vibes, and unfortunately they are unable to translate that to a recorded format anymore. Introducing/self titled/Church all really give the same energy as their live shows and that's what makes those albums so special

Yes, agree with everyone. Have not heard new album yet - the Burn album has some good songs but they need that MASSIVE production to sound like FOXY

Also, yes, their live show will change your life. It's like, the best thing you will ever see. And I've only seen them once and they were not even headlining.

I saw them for the first time when they opened for Panic! in 2011. I remember fun. was the second opener, and Foxy blew them both out of the water.

I gave it a shot and I can’t get past the production. I miss the church of rock n roll sound quality

The production really is a travesty. I guess the singer of The Darkness was behind the board on the first track, John Feldmann the second. That surprises me. I think a Feldmann is usually very good at mixing vocals, but “Heart” is a real mess.

I’m genuinely trying to enjoy this record, but the mix is pulling a lot of focus away from sound like interesting parts.

Edit: It looks like the whole record was mixed and produced by James Saez. This would explain why the track they recorded with Feldmann and others doesn't sound like it was recorded with Feldmann.

Not huge on the production but damn some of these songs are their catchiest since Church

I honestly feel like the issues people have with the production on this is being grossly overstated. Like, it sounds fine. Just not great.

  16. Production/mix talk usually goes mostly over my head, but there are tracks here that are inexplicable.
Why does "Love Like This" sound like there's a pillowcase over my speaker?

I gave it a couple of spins and definitely didn't dislike it, but for the next few days I'm more focused on listening to the stuff they're playing on this tour, and idk how much I'll go back to this after seeing them on Tuesday.

Just got back from the Chicago show, they coulda blown the goddamn roof of that building. So glad to have them back.

Can also confirm that the newer stuff is much, much better live. Specifically "Burn", which was nuts.

Listened to this yesterday extra loud while doing some work in my garage and yeah, I dig it. Production could be better, and a few stray odd lyrics and other choices, but overall very good.

Definitely sounds better loud. Only lyric I have trouble with us the Tesla reference in Love Rush Ecstasy, but I quickly got over it cuz that song is damn good.

Does the new album have any songs with the drummer rapping? Hoping not.
