ooookkayyyyyyy you have my interest. Burn had a ton of good songs bogged down by poor production, but it was a step up from Gonzo so hopefully this is another step up!! Cautiously excited

Yeah, Burn was okay. I liked it better than most. Although I hated the two songs Nally didn't sing.

"The drummer on lead vocals and rapping" is something I can honestly say I would never want..........from ANY of the bands I love.

I feel the same way, with Sum 41 being the exception.

But honestly - I just want the big sound of the S/T era. This new song sounds better but it still feels like a boring uninspired version of what they once were.

It makes me ask myself this sad question:

Was S/T lightening in a bottle? Are we never getting that level of greatness again? Not even Introducing.. levels of creativity?? Fuck

Because if so - what was the point of reuniting anyways??

They clearly have no interest in retreading old ground. They're still doing new and exciting stuff imo, it's just not what the majority wants from them. From what I can tell, they are now totally independent, doing everything themselves, and are having fun making music they love with their friends. I think that was the point of reuniting.

I could back them not retreading old ground if the new material was at least good but it’s largely not IMO. It definitely doesn’t hold candle to S/T or Introducing..

They are doing everything independent now and I’m sure they’re happy making music with friends which is great but it all just feels like a wasted opportunity. Oh well.

S/T was the only time they had money to sound that big

Production plays a huge part of the songs off that record sounding big for sure but you know what played the biggest part?

The songs actually being ambitious and big in conception. I can’t think of a song off Burn that would reach the heights of S/T with better production cause the songs simply aren’t there no matter what production is implemented.

That's true, and I guess I just assume in that case that Feldman helped them achieve some of those songwriting goals.

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

I think I’m gonna jam Church today. Been too long. That album was such a grower for me.

UPDATE: That ridiculous note Eric hits in Holy Touch still gets me.

Agree with all of that. S/T and to a lesser extent Church they had more money, bigger producers, and I can only assume a label pushing them to make those massive arena-worthy songs. I don't get the feeling that they are aspiring to be huge anymore. But I wish they were because those 2 albums are so incredible.

I just want more of that energy they used to have. I want to hear Eric belting and screaming again. Introducing probably has my favourite sound of theirs and although I doubt they'll go back to that I'd still like to get some level of excitement from their new stuff.

I feel like Burn, Dreamer, Dreamscape 2020, SYAAF and Suffering could be arena-rock anthems if they had that sleek production behind them.
