I made steak frites last night. I should have made the full bernaise... I tried to do a bernaise inspired brown butter to save time and dishes (I have no dishwasher), but the flavor just wasn't strong enough. I think there's either two options: make the brown butter in the pan earlier with more garlic, shallot, and tarragon, or give up on it. I saw a recipe which I found rather appealing that topped steak frites with a roquefort butter, which has me really intrigued. I think gorgonzola would work well too, or any strong, creamy blue cheese.

Does anyone else in here like to make steak frites? It's can be such a simple dish--a steak and some frozen french fries. I could eat it once a week.

 

Got some yesterday too. It's not as similar to regular Pepsi as I had remembered. I want to get some regular Pepsi now and do a blind taste test.

 

I got one today and it definitely doesn't taste very similar to regular Pepsi.

 

Yeah, it's strange. Maybe my memory just sucks, but I remember it being identical to regular Pepsi except that it was clear. The one I drank yesterday tasted like a cola, but nothing like Pepsi. I think looking at the clear liquid plays a trick on your brain/taste buds so I'd like to do a blind test, but I still think it'd be fairly easy to pick out the Crystal Pepsi.

 

Crystal has a very citrusy flavor. It's almost like if you went to a 711 and mixed Pepsi with Mountain Dew.

I'm gonna have to re-evaluate it. I think it's a different recipe than the 90s version.
