Kinda funny that it's one of the least traditional sounding FF records aside from "Stacked Actors," but "Learn to Fly" is iconic and "Headwires" and "Aurora" are just wonderfully warm pieces of music. Really love the softer tracks too ("Next Year," "Ain't It the Life"), if those struck you I recommend In Your Honor, the acoustic disc in particular. Of course the debut and The Colour and The Shape are all-timers, but yeah. There is Nothing Left to Lose is one of my all-time favorite feel-good records.

I know Colour and the Shape is hailed as their best and I'm not really arguing that. But Nothing Left To Lose is my fave because it came out at a time in my life where we just moved to a new state and I had no friends. So I would basically sit in my room as a lonely kid and listen to this album and it would cheer me up. Kind of a weird, bittersweet, and sentimental attachment I have to this record. But I love it. The softer tracks on the record are beautiful.

Fuck, the toxicology report came back with “multiple narcotics” in his system.
That breaks my heart to read, I’m pretty sure he had been sober for like 20 years. This is all so awful

Love seeing all the TNLTL praise. Such a great album, some days my #1 from them.

I was also under the impression that he was sober since the 2001 overdose which must have been no easy journey given Dave and co’s love of boozing. So tragic.

  9. I'm arguing it lol. I spent a lot of time with TINLTL in the hospital after my spinal fusion junior year, and the summer following, one of my last as a kid. I know it's corny, but that album is skating and BBQ and sunsets and making out and being up all night. To me, it is pure, unfiltered youth and nostalgia

Fuck addiction. It is so incredibly difficult to beat and can be so easy to hide. Rest in Power.

Had to drive my cat to the vet early this morning and the local indie station was playing “Aurora.” Was really nice to hear that song being appreciated.

Rope isn't the flashiest but goddamn the drums are absolutely perfect. Everything he did was spot on for the music, on NLTL and IYH for example, but that one stuck with me in particular in the latter years. The wasting light album playthrough is great watching.

i get the impulse but that's kind of unnecessary to share. it isn't any of our business how or why he died.

Nice seeing a lot of love for There Is Nothing Left To Lose. In the Foo story, that was their first record really made as a solid BAND without member drama. Outside of "Stacked Actors" which is a real jarring opener, it's the most mellow and tuneful album they've ever made.

  20. Liner Notes (March 26th, 2022)
I was sitting on the couch last night, movie paused while Hannah grabbed some more wine, when I flipped over to Instagram to read the news that Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters had passed away. It felt like getting hit in the chest by a brick. I’ve been listening to this band for literally as long as I can remember. Hell, I’ve followed the Foo’s career since their inception. This is just so impossibly sad, so devastatingly heartbreaking. He was only 50, he leaves behind a family, and the world is left a little darker without his presence in it. A true beacon of happiness behind the drums, his passion and love for music were forever on display. His infectious smile and pure joy behind the drums made him literally the only man alive that you never once thought, “hm, I wish Dave was back there instead.” A legendary talent. I am left without words to describe this loss to the music world. Instead, I recommend everyone watch the 2008 Wembley performance of “Everlong,” and pour one out for Taylor. RIP.

Lengthier thoughts after sitting on this all day. RIP.

    I completely agree with you.
    Do better, AP/media.

It’s also extremely irresponsible reporting to frame a man 20 years sober as this “sudden change in drug use”.

It’s also tremendously racist to include marijuana, which literally is impossible to OD on, and put it before opioids, which literally kill people every day.

The AP shouldn’t even report causes of death, as it’s truly none of our business.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Aurora might be my favourite FF song. A3200 from that era is an absolute stunner too
