Criticism is an art when it’s balanced with knowledge and perspective. There would be swaths of bands, shows and movies that wouldn’t be discovered without it. What a weird opinion.

Truly understanding the process of creation and the journey it takes to make it come to life....

If a critic checks those boxes then I typically enjoy reading what they have to present. If they have no experience creating or developing what they are critiquing, like writing an album or writing a script and going the through the process of making it come to life, then I pretty much move it to the side. I've been trying to become more aware of that when I decide I want to check something out.

This album is exceedingly “okay” for me. There’s a handful of really strong tracks and probably overall the most interesting guitar work on any Foo Fighter’s album. It’s all very dynamic and dramatic with the strings. There’s just a handful of sections where the lyrics feel more like they were easy and convenient to fit into the melody or structure than they were potent feelings of Dave’s. Mixed bag but definitely worth the time to listen to it.

"Weenie Beenie" and "Watershed" slap so hard too. A great album, front to back.

LOL...if you say. Not one time in my life, for anything, have I ever indulged or passed in something because of a critic.

    It's not, but OK.

  11. Honestly hats off, I wish I was as sure about anything as this person seems to be about the centuries old medium of art criticism

I really don't think it's that unique of a position. More the norm.

Decided to pick this up cause I saw enough positive about it on here. Actually really like it and the singles are better in the album context. Making A Fire, Chasing Birds and Love Dies Young are my faves. Chasing Birds gives me TCATS slow song vibes. It's a short list of Foo albums that I like front to back and this is def one.

It felt like a groovier and tighter version of the sky is a neighborhood which I’m down for. The song needs more love.

I love Shame Shame, but think it was a bad choice for a first single.

I just wish it wasn't so fucking repetitive. It's literally the same thing over and over with no variation

I'm all about this record lately. Definitely their best since Wasting Light.

Still spinning this daily and it directed me down a Them Crooked Vultures/QOTSA rabbit hole this past week. I’ve also been revisiting Wasting Light and There is Nothing Left to Lose a lot.

There is something incredibly comforting about TINLTL. I think it just reminds me of simpler times.

I didn't like Shame at first and it definitely doesn't feel like single material, but I think everything about it works perfect in the album flow.

Love Dies Young has been my jam the past few days, but there’s not a song I don’t like here. Just a really great 35 minutes.
