I feel like people who struggle with the battle system didn't play the tutorial. It's super easy IMO. The only gripe I have with the combat is the camera.

So tell me something awesome Supporter

So far my biggest gripe about the game is Ignis never changing his "new recipe" line

Everything else I love so far

A little over 11 hours in. Level 22. I think I'm going to be finishing chapter 3 any minute now. Time flies when playing this thing.

I really, really love XV so far. Might be my GOTY. By a pretty large margin, actually. I love the characters, am enjoying the story, having a blast with all the sidequests/hunts/etc. Played all weekend long, hit level 40 before the end of chapter 3. In chapter 5 now and still loving it -- to the point that I've been waking up early just to get an hour or so in before work (can't remember the last time I did that with a game, probably been years). Probably about 25 hours in now and still soaking up every bit of it.

I didn't love FF XIII and only got a few hours into it because it felt like it was on rails. Is this better?

Just some fishing grinding to get to max level and I'll have this sucker platinumed. Love this game, a more than worthy addition to the series.

Am i correct, prior to going in, that this is the least "final fantasy" installment in the series since VI?

If you don't consider the battle mechanics to be what makes a Final Fantasy game, I don't think this feels particularly un-FF at all. It definitely takes a lot of heavy inspiration from western RPGs in its open world/side quest system, but in my opinion it still feels very, very much like a Final Fantasy game. Yeah, this is the first mainline entry that features a totally "action-based" battle system, but I feel like the themes and portrayals of such are very much FF, just a "modern" interpretation.

It actually feels way more like a Final Fantasy than I was expecting it to, in a good way of course.

Doesn't feel like a final fantasy game to me that much. I think that is because of the battle system though. I miss turn based specific actions that I control for each party member, but I get why they had to go away from it. The story has seemed pretty minimal in terms of depth (maybe an hour of story in the 6.5 hours I've played) and a lot of the characters seem out of place and shallow.

    Still enjoying it though.

If the only reason you didn't like XIII was because it was linear then yes this is better.

FF13 departed so much from the spirit of FF that I wasn't sure if a main entry title would ever recapture it. But I think FF15 feels like a FF game. It reminds me a lot of FF12 which is one of my favorites in the series. If the battle system was turn based ATM or some sort of hybrid of it, the game could have been the best modern JRPG ever.

The reason i asked was i heard stuff about the driving, fishing (?) mini-games, and storylines about a band and stuff haha. Sounds very un-FF.

Final Fantasy XII is top 3 PS2 games of all time for me and also in my top RPGs of all time. I keep bringing it up but it really is rather similar to XV in that there was a way more open world, tons and tons of side quests, and even also involved an "Evil Empire" plot (my favorite type of Final Fantasy plot).

The announcement of The Zodiac Age was basically a dream come true for me. And I pretty much never get hyped for HD Remasters. That's a Day One buy for me, though. XII was the first game I logged more than 100 hours playing. I did everything in that game. Can't wait to experience it again.

FFXII is among my favorite of the series and I have way too many friends who love FF games but have never played XII for one reason or another. It's going to be really nice to see them experience it for the first time (plus I'm really excited to play it again, I haven't since it came out).

12 took a while to get cooking but the payoff was really great. Basch might be my favorite character in the series.

I don't remember if I ever played XII. I am not sure why I wouldnt unless it was online only. Hmmm

So far I've enjoyed FFXIII more than XV...

Didn't think I'd be saying that but here we are.

I still love Balthier in all his smarmy, Han Solo-esque glory. Also the whole aesthetic of that game is so unique and gorgeous.

It's the game most deserving of being called an "offline MMO." It's literally structured almost exactly like an MMO but is single-player. Even the battle system is highly MMO-influenced.

I loved that I basically just had Penelo swinging claymores around while Balthier just tossed grenades. So much fun messing with the normal dynamics of an FF game.

The similarities are clear. I agree on the plot. It works well for the series.

I wish I had that kind of time... I'm only 9 hours in and I'm still on chapter 2. How many hours have you logged?
