I was trying to describe myself to someone

    I need a lie down.

Glad to see we looked a lot better against competent opposition.

Slightly concerned that we couldn't keep them out and that we still can't seem to score from open play. :-/

Sweden should be a walk in the park, right? Right?! :embarrassed:

  2. England is gonna win the damn thing

If that happens, Allardyce will claim it was his doing.

I've only ever watched one penalty shootout that "my team" has been in - when England lost to Italy a few years back. When Chelsea won the CL final against Bayern I had to turn the TV off and I missed the greatest moment in the clubs history.

Imagine the state of me if England got to the final and it went to penalties!!! :seeno::crylaugh:

  6. Haha. This is pretty amazing.

I basically blacked out during the last 10 minutes of the last championships teams I've cheered for have won.

It's so strange how we as fans get to that point! The psychology behind it would probably be quite interesting, but then I think about what the actual players must go through in those big moments and I'm just like :embarrassed:

Just about calmed down from that. Unbelievable. To do it in that manner, takes real guts. Never thought I'd see the day where England win a shootout. Lost for words.

Also, how the hell did the referee mess up WITH VAR. Colombia should have had a player sent off, but he gave him a yellow. If you or the VAR refs see it, it HAS to be a red, it;s the law of the game. That said, I thought Henderson went down a bit embarrassingly. Then Colombia players acted terribly through out the match and I found how they treated our players and the referee to be disgraceful really.

I find is suspicious that EVERY GAME we are on the end of several clearly incorrect and often willfully ignorant decisions.

We switched off at the end and paid the price but we're through, and it's cause of a penalty shoot out of all things

Great game and I'm still on a high. Bring on Sweden! Get on board the England train everyone.

The ref was bad, but he was fairly bad all round to be honest. Young was very, very lucky to stay on the pitch I thought, and there were a few dives that weren't called. I'm very happy with how they're treating wrestling in the box mind. Players will learn if penalties keep getting given for it.

As a side note, I'm pretty proud that Maguire fell over and immediately said "no contact, not a penalty" to the referee. Incredibly honest.

If you're talking about the one where he went into a 50/50 and ended up over the ball, I think that would have been a bit harsh. When the ball pinches like that with both players going in at full force, I don't really think it's fair to punish either if they've both got their foot to the ball. It's not like he actually went in high, but when you see those back on a replay, they always look terrible.

I suppose you're right. I don't know, seemed a 50/50 at first, but on replays looks so bad. If the Colombian lad had his foot planted when Young when full force onto his ankle, it could have been nasty.

And what a way you won me over

Yeah, not sure that one is a red. But the 2 headbutts should have been - one on and one by Henderson.

What I really hated was how the Colombian players were allowed to just stand and argue with the ref for about 5 mins after the penalty, and he didn’t do anything about it!

Also, did you see one of their players trying to scuff up the penalty spot haha

The ref should have been handing out yellows much more frequently for their antics. It was an odd game, in that there weren't really any contentious fouls while the ball was in play. It was all going on when the ball was out of play and the Colombians were trying to disrupt the game. Other than Henderson, I think the England players did pretty well to stay out of it.

That one from Young was a lot worse than what you think. It's still a 50/50 in terms of who gets the ball but he went high on that boys ankle when the Colombian player was going in studs down, nearly foot planted. It's too hard to call in real time foul wise but it was never an England free kick like the ref called it.

Realistically Colombia should've had a red card. England too but doubt Henderson would've done that if he hadn't been the subject of it earlier in the game. Maguire should've 100% been booked for diving. As much good as VAR has done for this tournament... Use it for diving. Intent was there despite his pathetic protests.

England papering over the cracks with results... maybe they'll end up like Greece and Portugal in the Euros. Worst outcome.

I'll take a Greece/Portugal style win. I don't care if it comes off Harry Kane's arse in the final, or if we don't score a single non penalty goal, I'll take any form of win.

Nobody has been booked for diving. Refs have even called players out for diving and not booked them. It's weird.

In Maguire's case it would be harsh to book the only player in the whole tournament to be honest about there being no contact. They do need to start booking for it though. I also think Neymar needs a talking to, his antics are as bad as diving in my opinion.

    I do not exist.

Wow. I can't believe we won. And to win like that was unreal. We've finally won a penalty shoot out in a World Cup, yeah! FROM BEHIND. Incredible.

I think this is a great position to be in. If we're realistic, the truth is that there's no way we should win this tournament. That's good - it takes the pressure off yet again. We played ok last night but look vulnerable in defence and didn't really look like scoring from open play. Also, we were mentally deflated by the last minute equaliser and that first half of extra time was excruciating. There shouldn't be any chance... but after winning like that we have hope. The players can believe in themselves. We're not the best team so the pressure is off. Let's just go out there and do ourselves justice!

We are a better team than Sweden and I think we've got a chance to reach that semi. I think our attack will be a lot more effective against a European opposition even though the Swedish defence is solid.

    Let's see.

Watching last night's match was agony because my hope was to reach the Quarter-Finals. I feel a lot more peaceful about Sweden now that we've got there. Anything from this point onwards is a bonus in my opinion.
