Been hearing about this. Runours of European and South American nations threatening to leave, knowing they are, with respect to everyone else, the “important” nations.

Makes me wonder what the previous method of calculating time was bc I imagine most soccer fans live with this internal paradox of “stoppage time replaces lost time” and “stoppage time doesn’t nearly approach how much time is actually lost.” Not sure how i feel about it.

im not a fan of moving to stopped clock - maybe I’m being hyperbolic but I worry that blows open the doors to other changes that’ll affect the flow of the game by removing the impetus to keep things moving. Slippery slope to “this indirect kick brought to you by Qatar airways, now a word from our sponsors while we get the ball out of the stands”

Edit: in regards to the armband thing, it seems they should’ve just done it without telling everyone ahead of time….

I see goals are boycotting this world cup. good on them.

Would be a change to 30 minute halves I would think.

I absolutely do not want football to become as stop/start and advertisement filled as NFL.

Watching an NFL feels like reading war and peace 90% of the time.

One of the great things about football is that you know a game will last roughly 2 hours. Stopping the clock would be awful

College in the US runs on a stopped clock, iirc. It’s decently smooth.

It’s funny that the four draws have been better matches than the two 2-0 dull fests. Something outsiders would never get about the sport.

As in the tournament or the entire organization?

I imagine the womens’ national teams have a lot of thoughts about this tournament/FIFA as well as they all have many out players. You could build a very sizable, important bloc of nations if you invite the USWNT/Matildas as well. Especially with the Matildas hosting next year.

isn’t it penalty or red now? like they got rid of double jeopardy I thought?

FIFPRO needs to get together use their collective bargaining power to enforce change or completely destroy FIFA. The stuff going down with this WC is just the tip of the iceberg as we all know, I’ve thought they needed to band together to address the packed schedule and the welfare of the players for a few years now anyway.

not necessary. I thought the foul was the keeper jumping onto him, then it should have been a red. But he hit him before while trying to get the ball. So yellow is correct

Kimmich is definitely not the long range shooter Kroos was for this team

Someone explain to me how that goal was offside? Yeah he was past the last defender when the pass came, but so was the guy that passed it to him because it was a rebound off a shot. I don’t understand that one… and I played soccer for years.

    It's all hell.

How are you finding the wider experience of the tournament outside of the games?

Japan needs to bury that follow up in the net. Not gonna get many better chances than that
