Anyway I feel super panicky and suicidal bc I have all my bills due in 5 days and no idea how I’m going to pay them and everyones acting like it’s just normal and it’s my fault for not having a job/money and like I’m a bad person for not just “taking whatever I can get” aka an essential minimum wage ass job.

The details are still being worked out. I'll know more next week. But, honestly, if they're giving me free food, I'm happy to do it. I've been promoting their products when I cook with them (for free) for well over a year now. They're a great company doing a lot of positive work for the local community, especially local farmers who have small operations, which is something that I'm very happy to support.

I don't have a schedule, no constraints or anything... and I'm not even sure what this will look like. It might be nothing more than a paragraph or two with some photos.

I also think this will open some doors for me. It puts my name out there in the community as a talented, creative cook, which is something I can't do nearly as well on my own... so there's a lot of value in that to me. I have countless friends and acquaintances who frequent the shop who have no idea that I cook. Local chefs & restaurants work directly with them and will see this content, which excites me.

Plus I'm having fun. I'm fortunate enough to have a great job and to be living more than comfortably. I don't mind paying it back, because I really believe in what they are doing.

I also don't rate my work as being at a professional level, so getting paid for it is hard for me to rationalize.

That said, I do appreciate your concern and I hope it takes off and they decide to pay me. It's just in the planning stages at this point now and most things have yet to be decided. Thank you for thinking of me though!

It sounds like it comes down to you not thinking the work you’re going to provide has value- I promise you it does. They would not have approached you if they didn’t think so.
and it’s in the rules of capitalism that of course they are going to lowball and undervalue you in order to maximize their own profits.

obviously only you can decide the benefits to weigh and know what’s best for you.

I just know that social media marketing/copy is an industry that is already full of people being taken advantage of because they are like you and don’t realize/underestimate the value they are providing to the company.

I know it’s still getting figured out so I hope that you are able to make it clear that you are thankful and excited for the opportunity while also knowing you have worth. I sincerely hope it turns quickly into a paying gig because no one should work for free!

Thank you. My perspective on this is a little different than yours, but I appreciate where you are coming from, and you're right, I do need to look out for myself here. I will definitely keep all of this in mind going forward.
