It's not the full album of Pete Wentz slam poetry that I dream of but I'll take what I can get.

  2. Is it a hot take to say the Reality Bites interlude is better than Pete's interlude? Lol

For now, both of them are still in my library. while I understand the context with Reality Bites, so far I find myself listening to Pete's more often. May delete one or both, but I like they're both just a minute long. I think that's what keeps them in rotation for the time being.

i love that "i am my own muse" steers the post-hiatus aesthetic right into halloween town

I heard they got a bunch of offers that they turned down (including Taylor Swift). Would definitely be a co-headline with FOB at this point and, dare I say, it might even make sense for them to alternate closing spots.

Oh man. One listen in and I already love this. That closer.

I like or love everything this band has ever done, but I was really hoping they'd definitively move away from making singles that seemed written exclusively to be featured on sports TV bumpers and motivational videos and workouts. Not that I don't like the songs, but, I felt like they always kind of stuck out like sore thumbs in the context of a full album.

Not only did they do that here, but it feels like they pretty well incorporated little snippets from every era of the band without ever feeling too nostalgic for the sake of nostalgia.

Cannot wait to spend more time with it.

Weirdly, I still don’t like So Good Right Now, but What a Time works for me.

The pre-chorus being a chorus itself going into the absolutely euphoric WHAT A TIME. TO. BE. aaaaLIIIII-AH-IVEEEEEEE is so cathartic

Same for me. So Good is the only track not really working for me yet. It’s fine and inoffensive, it’s just a little too Old Navy commercial for my liking lol

What a time to be alive is FOB’s “ain’t it fun”.

  15. i don’t get the take that this isn’t a guitar album or a rock album…i can’t imagine what that would sound like that isn’t this

Ah, so this explains why I'm not crazy about it lol

  19. (not to call you out) like this or like a few comments i read during the early listen parties

  20. My only issue with "What a Time to Be Alive" is a personal aversion I have to music directly using words like "pandemic," "quarantine," etc.

  21. the quarantine line gave me pause too but something about the phrase “quarantine blues” feels somehow like something they would have written before lol

Ahh gotcha! Think it’s a semantics thing - more that this record isn’t the return to roots pop punk record, not that there aren’t guitars/rock. Think we can all agree that the guitars and etc are way more prominent

  23. Not to speak for someone else, but I think "return to pop-punk" would be the more apt-phrase there. There's certainly more prominent guitars here than the last few records, but it's closer to blending pop and throwback emo than it is being pop-punk (semantics, I know)

"when i said leave me alone / this isn't quite what i meant" is prob the funniest pandemic lyric i've encountered yet
