One of the greatest shows of my life. Got upgraded to the pit while BMTH was playing… absolutely magical night.

 

I heard the box office over by 135 was giving out pit tickets so gonna try that tomorrow. What a show

Racist? It was a very tasteless and tactless thing to say, but I don't agree that what he said was intended to be racist.

It was a crude reference to the incident, no different from the "dark like the ocean" post I made in the Politics Thread in reference to the submarine implosion.

 

It was factually racist. Making a "joke" about a hate crime murder of a Black man is racist.

I really shouldn't have to even type that sentence. Come on.

 

The joke wasn't about the murder though, the joke was about its inclusion in the song. I completely agree it was a bad joke that should never have been made, but ascribing racism to it is putting way more thought into it than Greg did, I guarantee.

 

Racism does not require the intent of "I hate Black people and therefore, I am making this joke." It doesn't matter if it was about the "inclusion in the song."

There is no debate to be had on whether or not it was racist. That's factual. The question is how we respond to it. The answer is apparently to sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn't happen.
