Lots of really bad takes in the past two pages

  2. The band Ghost Town? On FBR?

    They're atrocious. And not 'underground.'

I liked it, better than most pop-punk on hopeless right now. Really don't care for the rest of those new wave bands.

The band is called Messenger Down, the song is called Ghost Town

@sophos34 and @Jason Tate are right imo

I'm trying to think of my favorite albums that would classify as "pop-punk" and most of them bring in other elements from other genres (pop, emo, indie rock, etc.) to diversify the sound to a point where I don't even know if they'd fit under the pop-punk moniker

the way the genre's fans treat the sound like it's the fucking american blues or something and needs to be preserved in its original form just perpetuates mediocrity

Rock music at large has the same problem and Pete has said rock is too traditionalist which is why they do things like use samples and synths

Remember when a major band had guns all over their merch and the pop punk scene thought it was so cool

At least a lot of pop punk in the early to mid 2000s had good production. Modern pop punk bands keep whiffing it

Pop Punk, in my mind, is more about a time and a place. It's a moment which usually accounts for a certain age. The lyricism for pop punk is extension of that. For those of us in our mid to late 20s and those in their 30s, the lyric choice isn't usually relatable. I don't think that's a fault of the genre, more so the lack of acceptance. Pop punk is no longer for me yet I'm still able to listen to older bands due to those moments made with the music. I try to not judge modern pop punk music since I'm the target audience. What I'd rather focus on relating to pop punk is still educating the bands/fans so that the lyrical content can be more so much more.

define good production because most pop punk bands old and new have shit production, either way too much polish or not nearly enough

Good thing Man Overboard came around when they did, could have lost a whole genre.

    Things have changed.

I'm pretty surprised there's not a "fake news" lyric reference on this record.

  17. Yeah, I remember calling it stupid (and that band with the name "Handguns") and people calling me too sensitive and people around the band saying they made so much money from the shirts they didn't care. Wonder if they'd feel the same way with the mass murders on a daily basis now.

Even then, especially with Milk, I'd view it more as alt-rock seeing as both them and Pentimento's latest worships our savior Jimmy Eat World - Futures

but yeah fuck those guys. that whole situation makes me heated

Smh, everyone arguing about pop punk when really all bands should be doing is trying to emulate The Canyon

I think songs like Arrows and Teeth sway away from the genre. That 5 song stretch especially has a lot of experimentation for the genre that its less a Pop Punk album and more so a band exploring past their roots.
