Regardless of whether FOB was ever emo or not, this album is great. I've probably listened to it 10 times since it leaked and I can't get enough. And while I like SR&R and love AB/AP, I haven't been this into a FOB album on its release since FAD.

All this emo talk makes me want that Clandestine “Breakdance, not hearts” shirt from way back when

I can actually decently sing the opening lines but once “you were too good to be true” starts I drop out lol

I'm probably engaging a tired idea here but it seems like some people felt like they had a special claim to FOB coming from a different scene from where they are now. Like the social dynamics of middle/high school come into play here in a significant way. Part of my identity then was that I listened to music that the jocks didn't listen to even though I was expected to being one of 4 black dudes in our school. So I was called 'emo' and listened to Fall Out Boy in spite of not having the jock idenity. So when Fall Out Boy transitions to being associated with football its like no surprise that people would be turned off to them without considering that the music itself could still be good.

These are some of the catchiest choruses they've written, Last of the Real One's has been stuck in my head all day

Go ahead. Call the poem bad one more time. See what happens.

To piggy back off that, I agree with that statement. I got relentlessly bullied in high school and middle school for listening to MCR, FOB, ETF, all those
Bands from scene in the mid 2000s. Now I go to my local emo night and everyone in attendance are the same jocks and bullied who beat me up and made fun of me in school. Like now it’s cool for you to like those bands? I don’t get it.

This is you and me, and me and you, until we got nothing left.

It's so bad, but a large part of that is in the delivery.

I pretty much post this every time a new fall out boy album comes out, but god damn is it unreal how much I can connect with their lyrics upon each release. Every new album always ends up being the album that defines a two year period of my life.

I think the reason I love Fall Out Boy (and music in general) is that if I go and listen to a specific album it just brings me back to a certain period in my life. Some of the memories are good, some of the memories are bad, but overall I love how it brings me back. Because I'm around the same age as most of them in the band I always feel like I'm having the same types of thoughts/feelings as they are at that certain point in my life so can just relate on a level that I can't with some other bands. So far this album is no different. There are soooo many lines that I love on this album.

What I love about this album is the fact it has the folie type of lyrics with the post hiatus sound. This could become my favorite album from them which I never in a million years thought I would say because folie has been put on such a pedestal by me. Can't wait to blast it at the house tonight with my wife and kids. (Never thought in a million years that statement would come out of my mouth either).

Which is why it doesn't make sense for that reviewer to describe the album's songs as such. Feels like a lazy generalization.

    Cursed by my ancestry

If I'm remembering correctly, Stump has almost always been the primary songwriter for this band so I don't see how this one is any more or less "solo."

Thoroughly enjoying the album. I'm on my third play through. Not loving Heaven's Gate as much as everyone else, but the rest of the album is great. However, I still feel like AB/AP and SR&R were just a bit more gripping.

I need more time with this.

    Nah, it's almost always Pete

    TTTYG - Pete and Patrick
    FUCT - all Pete
    IOH - all Pete
    Folie - all Pete

    SRAR - all 4 credited
    AB/AP - all 4 plus a lot more co-writers
    Mania - all 4 and a few co-writers

    Sending my love

There’s just too many reviews that indicate Y&M as the opening track, and then only comment on the 4 previously released tracks, so I just have a hard time believing their accuracy.

    Pleasantly surprised by this.

Not all of this hits for me, but I can grab 7 songs from here that would be my favorite Fall Out Boy work in a decade or so.

I think they meant songwriter as composer. Patrick has always been the primary composer, but they all get credited.
