Watched Blazing Saddles for the first time in forever. I wish more comedy movies would go back to being just silly gag heavy live action cartoons like the old Mel Brooks, Monty Python, and Zucker brothers movies. Blazing Saddles is pretty much a live action Bugs Bunny cartoon with swears and dick jokes.

Also this is a great example of a movie that had plenty of jokes about race that punched up instead of down.

They would turn the movie off if they had to watch an older movie with credits at the beginning.

I have noticed a lot more of an audience expectation for some sort of extra scene. I'm getting up and leaving.

  13. I know every Marvel movie will have 'em. For anything else, I always look it up prior to watching the movie on aftercredits.com, which also takes user votes to get a consensus on if a post-credits scene is worth it.

I remember that being the main critique people had of Black Panther, that the action, particularly in the finale, felt off or strange. It turns out consistent visual language is an important part of cinema as an art and when you bully VFX houses without a clear plan of what you actually want, you prove Scorsese even more correct with each passing day.

It’s insane no one from the production was involved. The VFX artists just had to make it up on the fly.

Reminds me of that prospective Black Widow director (forget who it was) who turned it down because Marvel told her not to worry about the action. The structure actively encourages these directors not to have their fingers in those set pieces (though there seem to be exceptions).

The wild/funny/sad thing is, I thought a lot of action got pre-vis before the rest of the film got going, and yet stuff also ends up popping up last minute. Really feels like the worst of both worlds.

Lucrecia Martel, who would have been a really unique choice to make a superhero movie.

    Poll position: old is gold

For those who don't know, every 10 years Sight and Sound polls critics around the world to determine the top ten films of all time. While you can find lists like that anywhere, Sight and Sound's poll is considered more authoritative because of how rarely it happens and the number of people they poll. In 2012 Vertigo dethroned CItizen Kane for the top spot, which had been held since 2012. It might mark a generational shift among critics. Maybe something like Renoir's The Rules of the Game falls off, or we get something from beyond America-Western Europe-Japan?
